Nate Yordon wrote a great response to the cheap chest-thumping of political bore Fred Wilms. Yordon points out that we need some cooperation- tough to get good will when you're still doing the "victory" dance.
We had to live with the thinking-challenged Chiaramonte. We expected his flipping the bird to the teachers. For some reason we expcted better from Wilms. From what I read I don't know what any of them are celebratng for. Like every other teachers group in the state, our teachers got a zero raise for one year. But the year after they get 2 1/2 percent increase. The union president should be required to report to a school every day to do some work. Letting him be out all the time if the union pays him still seems like a waste.
Has anyone attended the Superintendent's budget talks? I did- I was impressed. I thought what we said mattered to him. Sure, it would have been good if more than one BoE member was there.
Supt. Daddona did a great job in giving all citizens an opportunity to constructively participate in the budget-plannning process. He deserves much credit for devising the forum. I was honored to have worked with him on his plan and to have participated in the first three of the community workgroups. We will be compiling the information to share with the Board of Education and the public shortly.
WRONG! The Board Apples might have their own deal done. THAT'S ALWAYS POSSIBLE. From what I hear, the Supt. is looking at lots of items very closely. He is taking all the parent comments very seriously.
7:39 AM, will nothing satisfy you? What you are not considering is that CT is in financial trouble... millions of dollars in grants could be cut. The district needs to be prepared for future problems that might potentially cause budget cuts....medical costs could increase, state mandates for evaluations could cause added expenditures, almost anything could increase proposed budgets that would require cuts to the 2013-2014 budget. Superintendent Daddona is setting up a new process that will serve us well in the future. If you are an Apple, you would be talking about vision. Well, this is the future. Congratulations to a forward thinking Superintendent!
I was impressed that the superintendent shared his vision for the school system. He wants school choice for the future and he received a round of applause from parents. That's what I call a man with vision.
Obviously you weren't at the Susan Marks road show a couple of years ago. Same speech. In fact magnets and school choice have been the narrative for a good 10 years now, so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to provide "vision". Let's see implementation. That would be something to write about.
Big difference then and now--- Marks was making her speeches with no idea how to implement anything. She was wasting money-- we know the Apples have amnesia, but the rest of us remember her secret raises and promotions. Daddona is looking to rebuild what's needed-- that's the big diffference.
I think there is a bigger problem for making change. There are at least two Board of Education members who attack Daddona and they are merciless. They make personal attacks. Even when Colarossi was being prickly he stuck to asking tough questions to Marks. She wasn't under siege with demands and FOIA requests like Haynie does to Daddona.
If you are going to talk about secret raises, what about the $34k one that the interim got that was passed off as $1400 per pay period. If you want to talk about secrecy talk about that. Pretty hard to tell teachers to take a freeze when that is going on. Old board members put Dadonna in charge, just like they did when they made him AS over McCain because they didn't like Corda. Same old stuff by the same old people.
Here we go again with the poisonous Apple. First Daddona isn't even making what Marks made and is doing a far better job. Second, we are finding out that new Board members are now backing Daddona because of the excellent job he is doing. only the RedApples are trying to derail him at every turn. If you really want to bring up McCain, let's talk about how he segregated nonwhites, ILEGALLY, to please parents who were afraid of minority students sitting next to their children. Let's talk about the mess he left behind at his school for others to clean up. Think what you want, but Daddona was the obvious choice for AS that it would only take an Apple not to see that. Sorry, Nathan Hale parent, you are living past history that isn't even factual.
So now you're accusing Nathan Hale parents of being racist? Really, don't you think that's stretching it just a bit... One other thing, everytime someone comments against status quo - all of sudden it's the Red Apples. Did you ever think they're are other people in this City who want changes to the status quo? Oh right, that would require you to THINK - hmmm, that's not happening. Silly me.
Dear Hmmmmmmm, We have heard from you before......you and your hmmmmmmm,. Yes, we have heard from you when there have been comments about the Red Apples. You are there to defend them. I wonder why? An answer to that would require me to THINK, so others will have to think to put the clues together. Ha! Ha! Ha!
If you don't have your Apples-to-English Dictionary available, here is the translation: the status quo = Tony Daddona and reform = anything the Apples says it means. Shameful, really. Fact- Norwalk students have been making progress over the past few years. So whoever was in charge of curriculum must have been doing o.k. I don't know anyone who thinks there isn't enough progress. But, our kids are doing better and better.

Can someone provide a link to the Wilms opinion? Unable to locate on The Hour (minute) site

DeleteREMINDER: Superintendent Daddona will be holding 2013-2014 budget talks. Make sure you attend. This is your chance for input!

Colarossi was at the focus group I attended.
ReplyDeleteYes, the superintendent really listens. I'm very pleased with the job he has been doing.

Gag me with a spoon. The budget is set. There won't be any major cuts because it's an election year.
ReplyDeleteIt was a feel good session.
