I have a question. Why is Ralph V., the Director of Technology, evaluating principals? He has no experience as a building principal. All he knows is technology. Even when he worked for Rivera's business, all he did was technology. Is this the new Norwalk? No background, just go in and evaluate a job being done that you know nothing at all about? I don't get it.
Did anyone notice that NoN just restricted (even more) the comments that they allow on their blog? Even though they deny it, sure sounds political to me. There are certain people who are allowed opinion letters ALL the time. Watch and see others who are censored! If the writer doesn't agree with favorite commenters, it will be curtains for them!
While it may bother some that we do not redact "irritating" or "disturbing" comments, we believe in people's right to state their opinions. This is an adult forum. Today, in Norwalk, as in the rest of the country, freedom of speech looks and sounds differently to those who are from another generation. I do not know if the pendulum will swing the other way, but at least for now, this blog is an example of open and genuine discussion. Some who want censorship will leave. No problem. We have many who want to hear what everyone is thinking. Only pornographic and obscene comments will be removed.
The new Board has been in office for over 3 months. Committees were formed late. Finance met about the budget. What have the other committees done? Not being critical, just wondering what was in the works.
The Board Policy Committee is meeting tonight on Rivera's strategic plan, the Finance Committee meets Wednesday night on budget transfers and financial reports, and the Curriculum Committee meets Thursday night to receive Rivera's K-5 ELA proposal.
Rivera's strategic plan is his plan, why is it Policy? Finance has little to do because Rivera had a good budget from Daddona and knew how to finesse his improvements into the system. Curriculum meeting is long overdue. Rivera promised an ELA plan months ago. We know what they're doing the last week of February-- what were they doing since first week in November? What about the building safety committee?
because it creates a culture of accountability which has been lacking .. he also is bringing in money - better for budget.. ask the ELA coord. safety = dept. supt.
1. Accountability? Still lacking (especially at Norwalk High School). Since when does a "vision" or "mission statement" create accountability? 2. Money will come to Supt. Rivera because of his contacts- not because he has a policy that no one reads. 3. ELA Coord made her recommendations last spring- question is why Chairman hasn't put it on the agenda. 4. Chiaramonte is the Safety Committee chairman. What's he been doing? 5. With a stellar superintendent, does any one care what the BoE does?
1. Accountability still missing everywhere! 2. Agreed 3. Agreed +++Politics in Norwalk! 4. Yes, what has Chiaramonte been doing? 5. Stellar superintendent??????
The "Accountability" mantra is getting a little tiresome. We know the accountability cheerleaders think that Mike Lyons is the king of accountability. But do they think that Mike's idea of letting BOE members attend meetings by telephone will increase accountability?
Accountability is key. Let's not forget about all the complaints about administrators in buildings and central office. Now we have no credibility since the IT Director is evaluating principals. How can his evaluations stand up in court (if challenged by the union) when he has no experience except in technology? The union must be laughing at this decision. Rivera isn't concerned about accountability.

ReplyDeleteCheck your facts. His title is not IT Director.
ReplyDeleteHis total background is in technology! You are right on his title, but he doesn't have any other background!
