Taxpayers, the raise bestowed on Dr. Rivera does not only total 3%. If I am reading correctly, the $30,000 annuity is also calculated yearly. Doesn't that translate to a 3% raise PLUS a yearly annuity? That's a lot of big change for someone who hasn't accomplished anything yet.
Who is bragging that they are going to be running curriculum next year? Not a very smart way to start a new position. Not a way to make friends either.
Dr. Rivera are you listening? Your choices for two new positions (including this one) are a disaster in the making. While your leadership skills are worthy of an A ( if your promises are carried out and future test scores increase substantially), my grade for new hires is a D. Teacher morale in this area is about to fall off a cliff.
It is true. The $30,000 annuity is annual!!!!! Thanks, Marj for asking Mike Lyons. In addition to that, he gets the 3 %. I don't think that the additional $30,000 yearly has been made clear to taxpayers.
How unfair that the new Superintendent receives an automatic raise of 3% every year and $30,000 in deferred compensation. Let's end all automatic raises and all deferred compensation for every BoE employee, immediately.
Is the Board ignoring its diversity hiring goal by posting positions that are really appointments? If the central office person (and we all know who that is) is being appointed Chief of Curriculum, sounds like equal opportunity hiring is out the window. Was the labor relations position even posted? (H.R.). Is it legal to appoint people and either (1) not post the position or (2) tell the person he job is theirs before the posting?
I just read the Board of Education is not required to set criteria for the superintendent's $50,00 bonus for 2014-2015. Who doesn't set criteria for a bonus of that size? My math isn't great, but I figure $230,000 base salary + $30,000 automatic yearly tax deferred annuity + approximately 3% cost of living raise + $50,000 bonus with no criteria? Plus the 3% raise this year and the $30,000 annuity this year equals what? Someone do the math.
With all of the hullabaloo regarding anything to do with South Norwalk (or so it seems), does anyone know if the superintendent's plan for a school in South Norwalk is going forward? Seems to me like a not well thought out plan at the very least.
South Norwalk School. I never hear Dr. Rivera say he had a plan for a SoNo school. He just mentioned he wanted to start the process of talking with the community about it.
Curriculum Director. If it's Craig "It's True if It's on My Resume" Crellar, Dr. Rivera has got to stop entertaining any idea that the REd Apples agree with it. To the extent he's all flash but not substance, think of it like the flash from those old square flashbulbs that turned each time you took a picture-- no depth, no control and will spin even when he's not needed.
South Norwalk Community Center. Why are the RedApples spreading their lies there? Is it true Pena promised Rosato (and Thompson, Haynie and company) the chance to inflict their crazy literacy ideas on any preschool program that might get started in the future?
8:37, are you confirming that Dr. Rivera is taking his orders from the Red Apples? Are they doing to Rivera what they did to the last superintendent, but in secret? This is BIG news. Lisa Thomson and Sue Haynie are still trying to run the NPS? Does Haynie understand that she was voted out out out? Very clever of them to go underground! Not so smart of Rivera to listen to them, if this is factual.
Rivera doesn't get an "automatic" raise, the Board has to vote on it. Union employees like teachers and custodians get automatic raises - are you saying to cancel them?
Asking again! What has Dr. Rivera accomplished? There are multiple expensive hires, but I don't recall anything new that he initiated. This is not to slam the guy; I am wondering what is going on in terms of progress. Should I interpret no answer as an answer?
Ok, now what is this new position... Director of Research and Accountability? Hope he/she holds MORE employees accountable than what seems to be happening now.

ReplyDeleteAnyone listening knows who it is! Just another done deal in Norwalk hiring practices. Add it to the list.

Delete5:32 PM makes an excellent point. No BoE employee should get a raise without demonstrating accomplishment first.
ReplyDeleteSince we haven't heard anything from the Apples, it's on account of they are telling Rivera what to do, privately. True.

ReplyDeleteNot everyone knows, so who is it for Chief of Curriculum?

ReplyDeleteWhat I said was he gets an automatic yearly tax deferred $30,000 annuity. It's in his contract. The raise and bonus would be on top of that $$$$$$$.
