The Superintendent's Supervisors

By request, a clever suggestion to speak to the groupies who rule the superintendent. (I believe this is the meaning of the request) What do you think about the three groupies? Are they working for the kids or for themselves? Are they having a negative effect on the system? Do they have too much influence in the schools? A reminder once again, your anonymity is even anonymous to me.

  1. Would you please name the people to whom you are referring? You both obscure and cheapen your own comments by referring to the targets of your criticism by a contemptuous nickname rather than by their actual names.

  2. They were identified earlier in 'What's Your Pleasure'
This thread was requested by an anonymous poster. Perhaps s/he could tell us who all the groupies are. I may not be aware of all of them.

    1. "They were identified earlier"? That is _if_ one read all of the comments in the prior posting (which isn't wasn't referenced in this posting until now), and _if_ one assumes that you are referring to the same people referred to by the commenter.

"Perhaps s/he could tell us who all the groupies are."? Wouldn't it be simpler for you to just name the people to whom _you_ are referring? I mean, you must know to whom you are referring -- why not just say who they are?

Of course, you could instead say "I am not a journalist" and brush off the question... But that response doesn't answer the fundamental question -- while you clearly disagree with and even disrespect these people, don't you think you are harming your own argument by all this name-calling?

    2. So you see nothing wrong with name-calling ("the Rookie" "groupies") towards the superintendent and her supporters?

  3. Here's my two cents-
The BoE should start acting like Supt. Marks' supervisors-- we didn't elect them to be BFF's (sorry Haynie), FaceBook fans (no offense Barbis), apologists (like Chiaramonte has become) or Grand Inquisitors (sorry to Steve of last year and Migdalia of the past year).
What keeps getting my goat is that Marks never (I repeat "NEVER") stands up to her cronies when they attack the people who don't agree with her. But as long as Marks keep beinng guided by SUE HAYNIE (for someone who I don't think ever graduated from college, she has tons of opinions about teaching), the Supt. will never figure out local politics. She's also being mislead by LISA THOMPSON, a rabid know-it-all with a vicious streak that she'll inflct on any one who doesn't agree with her and kiss her feet. Add in a healthy does of LAUREN ROSATTO from the NEF and you have three of the leaders of the APPLES.
Among the school department employees she's particularly fond of are Susan Koreshetz Brown- the BMHS principal who's so good, she has dismal test scores (lower than Norwalk High) and a state mandate to have a leadership council (but great PR). Make sure you throw in CAROL MARINACCHIO into the mix (an employee who is so grounded in reality she is fighting to become the next IT Director because she worked in a company with computer's in the early 1990's). Just to round out the best of the best, toss in another failing principal and you've got yourself quite the line up.

  5. Maybe I'm reading the tea leaves all wrong, but Supt. Marks is being guided (duped) by the RedApples. If you read their website or try to listen to the blather of Haynie at meetings or Lisa Thompson, you'll find that they are not a public education advocacy group. They are all in favor of PRIVATE SCHOOLS AND VOUCHERS.
So how does Susan Marks think that a group which dislikes public education can give her any good advice on OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS?????

    1. You know how to read the tea leaves. 'Duped' is the correct verb.

  6. Somebody tell me if I have this wrong, but it seems like Supt. Marks surrounds herself with people who agree with her. How does a leader grow if she only has cheerleaders around her?
I still cringe thinking about last year's budget mess- can you believe we had a superintendent who proposed a budget to the BoE but called it her "unrecommended" recommended budget?
I keep waiting for Rosa to bring her years of experience to once and for all get us on the straight and narrow. Maybe it will be up to her and Artie to show Supt. Marks the right way to lead.

  7. I FIND IT SO FUNNY, PEOPLE HAVE NO PROBLEM THROWING NAMES OUT THERE, OPINIONS BASED, WITH OUT KNOWING INFORMATION AT A 100% LEVEL. NOT JUST FUNNY, BUT HILARIOUS. THIS BLOG IS NOT CREATED FOR THE STUDENTS IN THE CITY OR ANYTHING ELSE IT IS DESGINED TO PICK UP WHERE MOINAS BLOG LEFT OFF TO DEGRADE MARKS AND HER SO CALLED CHEERLEADERS. BUT WHATS IRONIC IS THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE TALKING, PROBABLY SMILE IN THE FACES OF THOSE PEOPLE YOU SPEND TIME DISCUSSING ON A BLOG. AND LET ME ADD THAT I AM NOT EVEN SAYING I AM FOND OF THOSE PEOPLE, BUT I THIN THERE ARE A LOT MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO DISCUSS OTHER THAN THESE PEOPLE SAY IN AND DAY OUT, ITS SO REPETITIVE. EXTREMELY SMALL MINDED IF YOU ASK ME. AS A PARENT OF CHILDREN IN THE SYSTEM, IM JUST A LITTLE SICK OF THIS BEHIND THE DOOR BULLYING, AND RUMORS OF CENTRAL OFFICE MEMBERS, AND EX- CENTRAL OFFICE MEMBERS

    2. If the truth is bullying and facts are rumors, then you are correct. Unfortunately no one's noses are growing. What has been written here is the truth. If you don't like it, go back to your other groupies.

    3. Groupies? excusme? I am a parent with 2 children in the system. Not sure who you have me confused with. but it does sound like bullying to me. Students are suspended for online bullying? and your an adult doing the same. I imagine you have children yourself. what an amazing example your setting. (shaking my head)

  8. I agree myself. I am just a little tired of what this blog is based on. Norwalk B.O.E members who hate eachother so much, that they have to sit and write about each other all day. and I would love to know who created this blog to allow it and egg it on. the truth always comes out sooner or later. but is this what these people are being paid to do all day? Just saying...!

  9. I'm just a parent, but the stuff I read here all makes sense. Those who complain about the "rumors", what has been printed that's not true.
Put yourself in my shoes, I don't know where all these budget cuts are coming from. I think I can trust that a few folks will fight for the younger kids, but who knows really.
I like to think I want school reform but then I read some of th eApple stuff and I wonder if they want public school reform or a laboratory to work their own twists on things.

    1. what is it with the Apples that people have a problem with? I don't know much of them but what I read or hear on this blog. For those that have a problem of with them - why can't you identify yourself to truly see how many of you have a problem with them. Otherwise, I tend to believe that the only one that has a problem is one person with constant blogging. And before you go there...no, I'm not an 'Apple'but I eat one everyday.

      Delete
    2. There are many people who have a problem with the apples. Just ask around. It is common knowledge. It's even known in the schools.

      Delete
    3. Well, I can't ask other schools, so what is there problem since you seem to know some? I know they are supportive of Dr. Marks but I also know that they stand up against her when need be. I don't know them or the leader very well, so I'm trying to get a better handle of the group.

    4. I agree! you hate someone so much that you hide behind a website. sometimes hatred is a form of Envy, Jealousy, ETC. Constant blogging all day to express your dislike for someone, and sure they are the butt of jokes, but its that way in any city, town, district, ETC. Theres always someone who people form hatred and dislike for. But those ae the people who will use any chance they can to break bread with the person they speak about, or shake hands with them and give hugs, and kisses and hallmark cards....but eventually this blog will be shut down and they will move on to a new one, discussing eachother. but why apples? why not oranges? pears?

  11. I for one don't care who Supt. Marks gets her advise from. She is a chief executive and she can go to anyone she wants for help.
If she wants to rely on some Rowayton mom, or one Board of Ed member over another, BFD. Let's just make sure that we hold Supt. Marks accountable for what she does and doesn't do. Let's not let her hide behind her advisors like she tried to do last year when the budget cuts she proposed weren't her fault because her budget committee recommended them.

  12. NEWS FLASH . . . guess who's thinking about tossing her name in the hat for Norwalk High School Principal?? Look up in the sky, it's a Director of Elementary Education, no it's a disgruntled housemaster, no its a future IT Director-- no, it's SuperFriend, able to leap more qualified applicants in a single bound, more powerful than the sum of her failures, faster than the nosedive Supt. Marks' career in Norwalk will take if she gives her BFF the job . . .aaah, you get the point.

  13. LMSO, literally. you are sure setting off some steam sir. You sound very aggitated, or angry? Whats the Reason? Not even sure who you are reffering to, NOR do I care... but whats the purpose of this on-line bashing? whatever term you find to serve the purpose, of what you are doing. making sideline comments reffering to an idividual. Are you an Adult? or are you a Middle school student? not sure, because the last time I checked, Adults dont do that. And just a question, would you ever go up to the indvidual you are reffering to and say this to that persons face? Probably not, so why hide behind your laptop sunshine?

  14. LMAO! Superwoman must think she is qualified for the superintendent's job too.....oh wait, maybe she applied for it when it was available and got turned down for that too. This time the superintendent will have a difficult time making a decision since two of her pets will be applying for the NHS principalship position. The Nathan Hale prince is applying too, from what I heard.

Maybe you should look somewhere else for a job, seeing as the truth will come out to who you are eventually, and you REALLY have absolutely no life outside of the norwalk B.O.E, seeing as even when you arent working and when you are working you find time to discuss other members.

  18. Another dad, another 2 cents--
If you've ever been to a BoE meeting (maybe you're a masochist, maybe you were lost going to see the other circus in town we call the Common Council), you have to laugh at this merry band. The Chairman still doesn't know how to run a meeting, which is fine because it would interfere with his naps. Marks can't complete a sentence without "Um" and "Ah" and "UmMMM" and "AhhHH" etc. and the sentences she finishes don't seem to say much.
The thing of it is that we have two school department "leaders" who can't lead- I don't think either one of have the sense to get a wide range of opinion to help them. Let's be serious we know that Mike Lyons (who's the Mayor's boy) is really calling the shots for Jack and it's Sue Haynie and the Red Apples leading the Supt. Makes me remember how I felt when George W. Bush was elected and we all knew that Dick Cheney would be calling the shots.

  20. Wow! Looks like we suddenly have an influx of an organized group who want to keep us quiet. What fruits! They are only trying to get us to answer their posts so that the issues we are discussing are lost in the mix. My advice to all is to ignore them. They are the bullies. I will start a new topic, but feel free to continue with the topics mentioned here.

    1. "This is a blog where freedom of speech is encouraged. Having said that, I am suggesting that posters think before they write. All that is asked is that we behave as adults. "

Those were the first words you wrote on this blog back in September.

Does giving your opponents puerile nicknames like "the Rookie", "groupies" and "fruits" constitute behaving as adults?

And your advice right here to ignore the people with whom you disagree - is that encouraging freedom of speech?

If you are going to purport to offer a venue where people can freely offer differing views, you as blogmeister at the very least should set an example by being civil, measured and fair. That's not happening, and the results are not pretty.

  22. There is vitriole because there is frustration.
It is easy for people to discount Supt. Marks' critics because they perceive an insulting tone. These are many of the same people who fault Board of Education members who ask very tough questions and who refuse to accept incomplete answers. We cannot go back in time and undo past insults. We can however encourage all of our leaders and public critics to try to stick to the facts. We can also try to convince all of them to understand that they will not be accused of making personal attacks simply because they find issues with decisions made by school department leaders.

    ReplyDelete
  23. oh who are you kidding bubba? there ARE personal attacks on here. facts or opinions or rumors, are being twisted into personal attacks. just saying, i dont even know these people until i read these blogs, and i know just by reading them how much these members hate one another. absolutely sickening
