Every once in a while I think it's a good idea to have an open topic. It's your forum. All topics are welcome .........budget, Board of Ed, superintendent, curriculum, schools, even a topic on whether an open topic is a good idea. Just start writing....
Let's talk about how the school budget will be cut. Let's be serious, we know it's only a matter of time before Dick Moccia's BET decides against adequately funding our kids' educations . . .
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone think it will be a good idea to lay-off teachers and crowd kids into classrooms of 30 or 35 students each?
That's a contractual issue. Class size has to be honored according to the contract, so cuts need to be taken from programs, from schools closing, or from central office. I'm not sure there's much left other than that.
ReplyDeleteUmmm, last year Chairman Jack was screaming about laying off teachers if they didn't take paycuts. Supt. Marks also had lots of teacher eliminations on her cut list. So I guess some people don't care about the kids in the classrooms or whatever the teacher contract says.
ReplyDeleteMaybe somebody- anybody- can clue me in on why anyone would want to put more kids in a classroom. I always thought that smaller classes were better for most kids. So this is an education issue.
ReplyDeleteHey there, Educated Yesterday-- I think that a topic about whether teacher layoffs would be an acceptable way to balance the school dept. budget would be a great topic.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
