The Search
It is clear that the search is on for a new superintendent. It is clear that Haynie, for one, wants the new superintendent on the job mid-year. I am bringing this subject up again because it frightens me. Who is available mid-year to fill such an important role? Someone who is being forced out ot the job they are now in? Someone who couldn't get a superintendency for the beginning of the school year? A retired superintendent from New York who is willing to come to Norwalk?............Am I the only one who fears the choice of candidates mid-year will be the rejects?

Nobody wants Haynie to have any involvement with picking the next Siperintendent. Just look at her last pick...
ReplyDeleteI agree. How do you stop her though, when she is the chair of that committee?
DeleteYikes-- since when did one committee become the one-stop shopping location for a superintendent hire?
ReplyDeleteAs for that committee chairperson, she is too opinionated. Far too close to Susan Marks (aka "The Quitter") who will want to be included in the process.
Here's an idea- let the Board of Education see what resumes come in. If they don't get any one worth hiring, then repost it in the spring to look for someone to start after July 1. Daddona is a steady hand as interim superintendent and people listen to him because they know he'll return to asst. superintendent (so they can't hide from him).
We should be asking to check Sue's resume? Truely she has done nuthing to warrent this power she weilds? Steve and Artie should step up and remove her.
ReplyDeleteSueHaynie should be asked to step down and she should resign from the Board of Education. Of course this is only if Norwalk has any hope at all of moving ahead. Sue, do the right thing!
ReplyDeleteThe Board of Education will be conducting interviews for the search firm which will be used to assist us in the entire process of hiring a new superintendent. The search firm can have a profound impact on the process and, consequently, on the candidate who is ultimately chosen.
ReplyDeletePlease visit the Board of Education website (norwalkpublicschools.org) and follow the link to "Superintendent's Search". You can then review the proposals provided by the search firms-- the Board voted to interview Ray & Associates, Hazard Young and Pro-Act. I voted against the proposal in part because I have serious concerns with the Hazard Young proposal.
I had asked that we wait two weeks to decide which consultants to interview- however, the majority of my colleagues felt it was critical to start the process immediately.
I welcome any comments the public might have regarding the search firm selection process. You can email me at stevecolarossi@gmail.com or post a message here.
Also, as an aside, one member does not control the process- from the choice of the firm to the ad that will be placed to the selection of the final candidate- all will be the result of majority votes. With that in mind, I hope we can all appreciate how deeply we feel about the selection process and the future of our schools, but try to move beyond the personal nature of some of the posts.
Steve, You know all too well that Sue Haynie is trying to manipulate the Board into a rush to appoint a new superintendent. It is a huge mistake! The unions, the principals and the teachers are very pleased with Tony Daddona. They are working well with him and promising to cooperate. All the while, Daddona is holding everyone accountable. What more could you ask for? Don't get a flunkee from another district who is looking to leave in the middle of the year. Let Daddona prove himself. He might just turn out to be the best candidate. Stop the mad woman who only pushes her own agenda!
DeleteWhat has happened to the BoE when an opinionated lawyer (and I mean that in a good way) is the voice of reason?
ReplyDeleteOn a serious note, glad that Steve explained what happened at the meeting.
Steve is right. One person does not control the process and the personal attacks on Ms. Haynie distract from the objective at hand which is to secure a new superintendent.
ReplyDeleteit is a sad state of affairs when our board cannot respect one another. it is the same way in the district there is no repsect for administrators and no respect for leadership of any kind. the leadership is poor, has been poor, and if we keep the status quo it will remain poor.
ReplyDeletethe district should obtain a good search firm, then get a superintendent with leadership experience, credentials that truly demonstrate success, and one who is not afraid to make the decisions that need to be made, and make decisons that are in the best interests of students, not in the best interests of self-serving individuals that have been allowed to manipulate and bully others for self-gain!
The sad state of affairs is apparent because people in all the different camps read the 4:20 post and thought-- "Hmm . . . how true about the other side!"
DeleteWe elected every person on that Board of Education. We have the Board of Education we deserve.
ReplyDeleteSome of the people gave us exactly what we expected. Jack is Jack- no one can say that they didn't know what he was like before he got re-elected. Steve was the involved dad who wouldn't run from a fight-- yep, nothing has changed there. Heidi- the sweet mom- is the same person we elected a few years ago (good balance, if you ask me). Two people have changed-- Rosa is a little more engaged and comfortable with the public (that's good). Sue Haynie has changed for the worse- she wasn't much of a leader with the PTO Council, but we all thought that special ed was her passion. Who knew her real passion was her. Have you ever been to a BOE meeting when she reads a speech she made the week before to make sure it gets in the minutes? What an ego!
Is it really that bad if the Board starts looking at candidates now? We trust them to pick the best candidate, right? Do any of them dislike the interim superintendent that much to pick a marginal candidate instead of waiting for the person that's best for Norwalk?
ReplyDeleteIt is dangerous to proceed too rapidly. There is no reason to do so. Daddona is more than pushing things forward.
ReplyDeleteLet the search firm and a good one do a credible search and look for true leadership, experience, and a list of strong exemplars of leadership. It is not who is in who's camp and what does that mean anyway?
ReplyDeleteThe process needs to not be marginal or flawed but using a very credible firm and not one from CT like what does most searches and all that is recycled are good ole boys, but a firm with a reputation for selecting a person who has a backbone, not afraid of confrontation, and can make good sound decisions that impact learning.
PRUDENCE- not just the name of one of the kids from Nanny and the Professor- should be the watch word for the BOE.
ReplyDeleteGood to see this blog has at least another 50+ t.v. junkie.
DeleteJack, shame on you for not being able to control Haynie. Why should we vote for you as Senator when you can't control the Board? Shame on Mike Lyons too for supporting Haynie and not thinking for himself! It's as obvious as can be that Lyons can't think for himself when a vote is taken. While I am writing, shame on Moccia for not reigning in Haynie. She is ruining the reputation of many Republicans! Is it worth it, Republicans? Is it really?
ReplyDeleteMy patience is growing thin with those 3 republicans. Maybe the other two can stand up and lead. I've heard they are good men.
ReplyDeleteJack should show leadership qualities. So far I haven't seen them. I agree that Sue Haynie should be roped in. I dearly hope Jack can rope her in. Jack may be afraid of her?
ReplyDeleteParents, teachers and principals have been heard to say positive comments about the interim superintendent. Many parents have shared this with me. I haven't heard anything so positive in a long time. I wonder if I wandered into a different school system or what? Nice to hear. I thought I should share.
ReplyDeleteDo you really think everyone is that stupid? Give us a break! You embarrass yourself by thinking we can't see who is behind that comment and this blog. Say what you want about mrs Haynie and mr Lyons but St lesst they are direct and speak for themselves, they have my votes.
ReplyDeleteGood. Then they have one vote each.
DeleteDig a little deeper, the teachers are stressed, the administrators are pressed to the max. There is no money for anything.
ReplyDeleteSpecial Ed. is a mess--they are in the red hundreds of thousands. The contingency plan is wher?
Then there are all types of issues at the nest. This is not all of dorothy from Maryland. The interim knows what was going on, chose to play games.
If you think it is going to get better think again. It will be a big cover up once again, Someone will try and look good at the expense of others who will be the lamb this time.?
The 8:36 and the 2:06 are disturbing posts. Are you guys drinking again?
DeleteNot drinking I say just reporting facts that others won't!
ReplyDeleteThere is so much going on in Norwalk that the facts get clouded by not communicating the truth.
If you think we are better off than before we are not.
when has Norwalk had a leader that could really make a difference. Been in Norwalk a long time 3 decades worth, and with a history of information, experience, and have seen this go down down down...
Who are the ghost writers for the leader shall we ask that?
Maybe a teleprompter will be in the future!
What a bitter, angry and vindictive person you are! Sounds like it is time for you to retire. I wouldn't want you to be around me, let alone my kids. As for a teleprompter, I think that is a great idea. Our presidents use them. Some people, in fact many bright people, use them. How nasty to judge a person like that. Or is it that you are vindictive because you weren't appointed to the AS position? You are definitely not a parent, so don't try to deceive.
