Spelling Bee with Costumes

What do you think of the initiative by the Norwalk Education Foundation's effort to raise money by holding a spelling bee with costumes?

  1. Is it Halloween for high schoolers and adults?

  2. This is what happens when you have an "education" group that's never had a teacher in charge. Lauren Rosato brought it to the brink of bankruptcy and Gloria Falcone is an Apple- yep, that's the leadership golden ticket.

  3. I am happy that I am not alone in thinking this is the most absurd idea ever. How embarrassing for people to participate in a costumed spelling bee. What were they thinking?

  4. There you go again, bashing people who are trying to do positive things for the community. Just pathetic, but totally predictable.

    1. 9:23, are you in denial? This event is the joke of the year for Norwalk. No wonder this 'creative' group is almost bankrupt!

  5. I'll go if there is bobbing for Apples! Do we get to discard the bad Apples?

  6. Here is my hunch-and it's just a hunch . . . Do you think that the approach of the NEF has rubbed more folks the wrong way? They came out very very strong against Daddona and they seem to be in line with the Apples. My guess is that there are lots of people who were waiting for a goofy item like the spelling bee to unload on the NEF.

  7. Thanks 7:47 for making the point. If you play politics then you have to expect to be treated like a politician. The NEF argued for Race to the Top, supported Marks and sent out a big email to parents about how we needed change the "status quo" and get a new superintendent fast. Those were all political actions. They can't expect special treatment.

  8. Time for a what-if topic . . . what if the BET doesn't restore the $1.4 Million they offered to cut when they thought the schools were getting an extra $1.7 Million in additional ECS funding?

  9. ...okay...simple math question...if BET cuts 1.4 and ECS awards 1.7...doesn't that mean the BOE only gets $300,000 and saying the BOE is getting $1.7 million is not true? Can someone clarify?

    1. Gov Malloy announced plans to provide some extra ECS funding that would be limited to particular new programs (in other words, there were strings attached). The BET said that if the Norwalk schools were going to get an extra $1.7 Million in this strings-attached money, then the BET could cut school funding by $1.3 Million (and the schools would actually get more money). So far, so good.
Then the legisture says, "NO WAY", to Malloy's plan. So the schools are left praying that the BET doesn't cut the original planned amount for them.
