How come Nancy on Norwalk gets all the Board of Education breaking news before the Board members even know about it? I heard the After The Bell news broke on a blog before the Board of Education knew. Is this the way things are done by the Executive Board now?
After the Bell in South Norwalk was discussed by Rivera at the BoE meeting of March 4, over a month ago. Maybe some Board members weren't paying attention, if they only learned about it in the last few days on NON. Funding for After the Bell is from Title I funds. Funding for P-Tech is from IBM, except for 1.5 FTE positions funded from the regular budget through insurance savings.
From my understanding, AFter the Bell was only discussed at the BoE meeting from the perspective of a paid program based on a sliding scale. This is a totally different concept that was not discussed until it appeared on the blog.
As far as the P-Tech funding, I inquired about IBM funding in the other cities and thought IBM did not provide salaries. Please advise.
On the South Norwalk School, I was talking about the additional school that Dr. Rivera was going to add as a full time school in South Norwalk, not the summer school. Where is the money coming from for the full time school?
Actually, there was never any discussion of sliding scale payments.
IBM does not cover salaries (that's why the BoE is covering the 1.5 FTEs, as noted above.
The new school discussed by Rivera is conceptual at this point, with no funding budgeted. Obviously before going forward arranging funding would be a precondition.
Thank you again for your reply. I still don't understand where the funding for P-Tech will come from. Certainly more than 1.5 teachers will be needed if an additional two years are added to the four years of high school.
Funding for an entire school in South Norwalk is quite an undertaking. Taxpayers will have to fund teachers, grades K-5' nurse, gym, art, music, cafeteria, principal, asst. principal, secretaries.......additional medical benefits for all these people. Do you really expect taxpayers to agree?
With all this money being found, why is it that the 20 or so secretaries who lost hours and pay cannot get things back to where they were? Seems like someone has no regard for the 12 month secretaries who do more than most people think. Come on now!!
FYI Superintendent's base salary $230,000 plus $30,000 in retirement account and the $16,000 the Board approved for his moving and living expenses this past Tuesday night. Keeping everyone up to date.
Mike Lyons and Lisa Thomson, I am still waiting for an answer to my question originally posed on NON. You both stated that when free and reduced lunches reach 50%, Title 1 grant money can be spent in any way the district chooses. I was promised that you would let me know where it states that in the law. PLEASE tell me where I can find that legislation. Yes, it is Marjorie. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteWhere is the money coming from to (1) open a new school in South Norwalk and (2) open a six year school with NCC?

I was reading NON and was surprised to hear there was a list of people on their "banned" list. What's with that?
ReplyDeleteSNCC After The Bell program has been given the go-ahead by the Board. Any comments?
ReplyDeleteIt is desperately needed. I know no one on this blog wants to hear it, but kudos to Dr. Rivrra.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. He has a plan and I admire it.
DeleteDitto. Good things are happening.

ReplyDeleteTo BS: It is fairly easy to do a Google search yourself and look it up. Kinda funny to be demanding answers in anotherr forum.
ReplyDeleteI can't find the answers that is why I am asking. You are full of BS!
