Any Comment Will Do.......

Your comments and thoughts about any education related topics are welcome.

As you know, the administrators' contract has been approved. The health insurance plan will change as of January 1st to an HSA. While this is not the only topic in this thread up for discussion, we thought one definition of what this change would mean is appropriate.

'To get the benefits of an HSA, the law requires that the savings account be combined with a qualified high deductible health insurance plan which can cost less than other health insurance plans. In 2014, the minimum annual deductible of a qualified HSA plan for an individual is $1,250 and $2,500 for a family.'

Please add your comments on this or any other topic below.................

  1. don't know enough about administrator contract...
my comment...how can the superintendent get such a bonus? have we really seen a return on the investment? what we have seen is a major investment in central office personnel, of which we are not getting any more bang for the buck, especially in HR--who is on first????
    customer service???
why are others displaced administrators at central office? no one can answer. where did that money come from????they were replaced, thus adding 2 more administrators to the cost of the taxpayers, and I am one.
also, what is happening at Briggs? The school gets smaller, the staff gets bigger, and they don't even have 50 students on a good day. why is that still even open???now they have approved an assistant to the director, who again does not even have a population of 50 students.
they have been recruiting as if they are used car salespeople! yet they don't have inventory.
    and we are giving bonuses?

  2. Who is overseeing decisions made in the district? There is no oversight to who is watching decisions being made. Some board members ask questions, and are shot down; while others spend time on the other blog defending their decisions and support for how things are being managed.
If there are so few students at an alternative school, then why have it? Do the math...what is the overhead expense for running that school with 2 administrators, counselor, social work, staff and aides?
This is supposed to be a turnaround...what are we turning around...the rising costs to taxpayers for diminishing returns.

  5. When no one comments that it is untrue, I believe we can safely assume it is true. So sad.

  6. It is very sad. Have we become so accustomed to being lied to, cheat, and deprived that we just sit back and say it is ok? Let's hope not.
Let the truth be told. How could a district so rich in talent, and a community rich in diversity be cheated. Why is it that we are the only district in the state with such high salaries in mgt., and yet no accountability? We have union figureheads who continue to fill their pockets and do absolutely nothing for their members but sell them off, their benefits, and their retirement.

  7. Back door deals are made to benefit those in charge. It is happening now more than ever!

  8. This is why I retired and left the district. I couldn't stomach it anymore, and knew it wasn't getting any better.

  9. Definitely worse! Far worse!

  10. Love how the admin's who get paid for than teachers (and secretaries)... got their lost pay back too... have lower deductibles. The teachers started out at $1500/3000 and are going up in Jan to $2000/4000. I don't want to think of what the secretaries, especially new ones who weren't grandfathered in, have to deal with.

  11. Don't understand how with all the 'reorganizing' at HR... things are still a mess. HR specialists are supposed to deal with one school, right? Teachers that submitted documentation in August are still waiting for pay adjustments, pays are messed up (if you're lucky to be paid at all). Ask around what issues people are having with HR. Every email the head of HR sends out to teachers, secretaries, custodians, etc has a threat in it. Is anyone monitoring his own dept? Oh yes, let us not forget his time in Minnesota...

  14. Look at the action items in the BOE minutes for the answer.

  15. Chairamonte, are you really unaware that the NFT is running the district and that is why it's leader is agreeable to everything? Where is the Chairamonte that was totally against the union before? Do you really think Melion would be happy with small decisions? He runs the district!

  16. It is amazing how blinders are put on by those in power, and the BOE. How come Jack has changed his way of thinking? For a very opinionated person, who was so anti union, and now we don't hear a peep.
How is it that the NFT Pres makes so much money? When is the last time you saw him at the schools?
There seems to be carte blanche to do what people want, make decisions, move people around, and yet do not have to answer to anyone. What has changed? There are displaced administrators, and yet no one knows what they do, underperforming administrators the CO is definitely aware of. It is also a known fact that at least one has had a coach for 3 years that gets paid a lot of money. What has changed?

    1. Where is all this money coming from? No other superintendent in my memory had this freedom. Nothing has changed. Just the free flow of money!
