Instead of paying for an interim asst. supt., here is an easy fix-- hire an interim as the science/Academically talented director. Then you would have a literacy director, math director and science/AT director. The Interim Supt. would have a full plate, but he's up to it.
A few reasons why the former Dir of Elem Ed was a dismal failure- There was no meaningful evaluation of principals. She did nothing to stop the craziness of 12 elementary schools each doing what they wanted. She failed to monitor compliance with Title I money.
Sue Haynie likes her. Need I say more? Actually the Interim Supt. and she would not work well together. I've heard she bad-mouthed him big time! He doesn't need to start the job wondering whether he is being stabbed in the back.
If Haynie likes her, that's at least four votes against her. I don't think Marrinacchio would want a bruising battle with the BoE if she comes up for an interim appointment.
Bottom line-- NO-body cares who is the next interim temporary second banana. NO-body cares about Haynie's wackiness. She has no influence now that her bestie is leaving town. Let her and the clown who's above the law go on their merry way. What I want to see is a BoE where you have Rosa and Midaglia helping the others see that there are needs in the minority community. I want Artie to rise up as the spokesperson for the entire community and I want to see real debate between Lyons and Colarossi about what counts in education. Give me that, and I will gladly pay my taxes knowing that the school board is really thinking about how to use it for the greatest benefit.
Keep dreaming . . . this Board of Ed is a lot like Indochina in French Colonial days-- you know a tipping point is coming, and you know that the backlash will be dramatic, but no one knows how to stop the nonsense long enough for real and lasting change.

ReplyDeleteImpossible. Someone needs to evaluate all the principals and all the central office staff. That's a full time job for the A.S.
ReplyDeleteWhat about hiring a retired administrator to do the evaluations- maybe someone could do that for a lot less than $190K?
ReplyDeleteJust don't bring back the former Director of Elem. Ed.

For what it's worth, she has done poorly as a housemaster.
ReplyDeleteShe royally talks about people! Not a good person to promote confidence!
