NEF Insults Superintendent?

One of our posters just stated that she got an e-mail from the High School from the NEF that insulted the Superintendent. it also stated that parents should insist on a new Superintendent immediately. (I am paraphrasing) Would someone kindly verify this? Also it would help if we had a direct quote from this e-mail. If this is true, I would think that this is a very serious offense and is very problematic for the district.

  1. These are the same people who were complaining vehemently when Marks was questioned or insulted. Get them out of town. They are doing exactly what they claim the unions were doing to Marks.

  2. The past leader of the Norwalk Education Foundation was a Red Apple. The current leader of the NEF, part-time, is a friend of Sue Hayne and a neighbor of hers. All roads lead to Sue Haynie. Big surprise? Not if you've been following all the negative politics in Norwalk concerning the School System.

The NEF occupies a RENT FREE office on the third floor of City Hall. This means they should not be involved in politics. Well, obviously they are very politically involved. Since they have a political agenda, they should be forced out of their third floor rent free offices. Now! They are almost bankrupt, they can't get grants (so I've heard), and they have a nasty political agenda and a vendetta against Daddona. Have you been reading The Hour, Letters to The Editor? All those negative letters are about this agenda. Get them out!

  3. HERE IS THE EMAIL AS RECEIVED BY NORWALK HIGH PARENTS:
    • Update from the Norwalk Education Foundation: The BoE voted to postpone the decision on the superintendent search. Please write to the BoE members and state your opinion. Norwalk needs a strong leader with the vision to move this school system forward. If we don't proceed, the message to all stakeholders (parents, businesses and funders) is complacency. The emails can be found on the Norwalk Public Schools website: http://portal.norwalkps.org/BOE/Pages/Board%20Members.aspx

  4. That is insulting to theInterim Superintendent. It directly implies that under his leadership the school system will not move forward. It strongly implies that the businesses and funding sources will not come forward because there is no leadership. This is a definite political move on their part to force. Their agenda. Shame on them!

  5. The interim superintendent can't control this district any more than Marks could.. The fact that this annonymous blog with its annonymous rumors exists is testament to the dysfunction of the district. If the papers are true, the state should step in. This blog is biased to maintain the status quo as indicated by its Educated Yesterday pseudonym.

    1. Hello Apple! What is dysfunctional are the poisonous apples. They have an agenda and that is to slam Daddona in any way they can. They are running scared because principals are happy with him. In fact, they are happier than they have been in years. What the Apples and NEF don't understand is that happiness and status quo are not synonymous.
As for this blog, it exists to make sure transparency exists! You have a problem with that? Too bad you can't get away with your agenda of getting rid of Daddona.

  6. The Apples and friends have a writing campaign going on. That is a fact. Their aim is to make it seem that everyone wants to rush to get a new superintendent. They hate Daddona. They are the ones flooding the newspaper with letters.

  7. Don't you people get it? The NEF gets away insulting the interim because the BOE Chairman won't say anything to defend him. Chiaramonte wants Daddona replaced because the Mayor wants a superintendent that takes orders from the second floor.

Another reason why two years of Angry Jack has been 2 years too many.

  8. So sad, all of this politicking. Tony Daddona is moving us forward, and he is respected by those of usf out in the trenches. He is moving us forward, something that Marks has never been able to do.

Jack and the Red Apples should let him do his job.

    1. Yes! I agree!, but it is all about politics, never about our students. Why don't people listen to us? We have the students best interest in our hearts. We don't care about the politics.

  9. Over the past month, The Hour, along with several self-appointed education “reformers” have waged a campaign which has distorted the actions of the Norwalk Board of Education, attempted to taint the reputation of the long-serving Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction who graciously agreed to accept the role of Interim Superintendent and crafted (quite skillfully I must begrudgingly acknowledge) a sense of hysteria.

First and foremost, the vote to delay for one meeting the selection of a search firm came after a lengthy discussion of serious budget constraints—constraints so serious that a majority of the Board of Education believed that hiring additional staff to alleviate overcrowding in a number of Title I schools was not prudent because it would leave us without a sufficient reserve for possible overruns in the special education budget. The decision was premised on a belief that the Board of Education needed to increase a reserve account to avoid the specter of another budget shortfall. Given the tremendous needs of our schools—the elementary schools are particularly struggling with what I contend were ill-advised and unfairly distributed budget cuts—every dollar needs to be scrutinized.

Secondly, the motion to delay the vote was only to delay it until the next meeting and was based upon a discussion that involved asking the Chief Operating Officer to report on our funding availability. No one suggested tabling the decision indefinitely or abandoning the notion to hire a search firm.

Third, there was no budget transfer presented that suggested where the money would come from to pay for the search firm. After all, the Board of Education had approved a severance pay-off to the former superintendent that exceeded $80,000--- this was far more than was being saved on the reductions in total salary for interim superintendent and the interim assistant superintendent.

Fourth, Norwalk’s schools are in state of transition. Two interim superintendents did little to restore calm in the District and the administration of Susan Marks is notable in the absence of clear progress in a number of critical areas (there was no re-organization of central office administration, no improvements to the transparency of the budget process and no discernable change in the way that administrators were held accountable). Consequently, it was imperative to find an interim superintendent who would not merely tread water, but would work to make improvements to our school district.

Fifth, based upon the search firms that were interviewed, it is doubtful at best for a new superintendent to start before July 1st. Given the sense that Norwalk needs someone with prior experience as a superintendent, it is doubtful that a high-caliber candidate would be willing to leave her (or his) district on short notice (and I would question if someone who would quickly desert one district would evidence the type of loyalty our students deserve). Therefore, whether interviews are commenced in November or January, the ultimate timeline remains unchanged.

For reasons beyond my comprehension, certain individuals who purport to have the best interests of Norwalk’s students at heart, and who unfailingly consigned me to my own inner circle of Hades for demanding accountability from our former superintendent, feel that different rules apply to them and their efforts to demean the Interim Superintendent. He has been subject to one member demanding access to his personnel file and utter distortions as to his background and training. He has also been subject to a not-so-subtle whisper campaign in which all the ills are the past are laid at his feet, rather than the superintendents to whom he reported.

Norwalk needs to do much more for of our children, all of whom deserve excellence in education-- of that, there can be no question. However, there can be many questions asked about the actions undertaken by some in our community in pursuit of their definition of “excellence”.

  10. Thank you for your honesty, Steve. You are right on every issue mentioned. The truth needs to be heard!

  11. Steve, can you answer the question as to why there seems to be a political power play from Haynie, Lyons, Charamonte, and Barbis? From what i read, they did vote to keep our classrooms overcrowded, and yet they are self confessed advocates for our children. Does the word hypocrisy come to mind?

    1. I am not Steve, but these so-called self confessed advocates of our school system have done everything in their power to make sure the Interim has no time and no chance to succeed. They are making huge demands for paperwork from the Interim and causing as many problems for him as they can come up with. Does that sound like 'parents, not politicians' who want the best for the system? Sounds to me more like politicians who want a superintendent they can control. At present, the Interim has no choice. This group of control freaks are within their legal rights to demand paperwork under FOI. He has to provide it. The public needs to stand up to them if there is any hope for the future.

    2. I can only speak to my own votes and to what is in my heart (not to sound hokey, but a few days with no heat take a toll on one's ability to sound like a politician).
Whether you accept the good intentions of any elected official, or question motives, as a voter you still need to decide if the people you've elected represent your values. As a citizen, I don't always need to agree with the specific votes of the officials who serve my community, but I want to know that those votes were not the result of personal bias or scores to settle, but of a rational analysis of the matter at hand.

    3. I value honesty. The preacher (Artie K.) and Steve take hits to explain why they do what they do. That's more than I can say for most. It's pretty obvious that one of them should be chairman.

    4. Take hits? You must be kidding? Haynie takes more hits than anyone in the BOE! In fact you've practically dedicated a blog to crucifying her? As for the preacher what has he done other than lose 2 elections and be appointed by the GOP? As for honesty, why have they tried to take down Jack while he was away for 3 weeks. Why not stand up to him directly? So much for honesty.

    5. Haynie deserves the hits. She has an agenda overflowing with hatred. She can't admit to the reality that Daddona is doing a really good job. Hatred has blinded her.

Your comment proves the Jack-Apples connection. Nice to see the pseudo-intellectuals have so much in common with the loudmouth who can't lead in a meeting.

    7. I used to think Chiaramonte had good intentions but wasn't polished. The past year proved me wrong. HE VOTED TO CUT THE LAST SHOP CLASS AT NORWALK HIGH, BUT WOULDN'T THINK ABOUT SMALL CUTS TO SPORTS.
If I want a Senator to make bad choices, I stick with Bob Duff. At least he won't embarrass us.

  12. Sue Haynie is going crazy because she no longer has Marks to control. She has temper tantrums now just like a two year old. She is a nuisance and is disruptive to the education of our students.

  14. You have to read the Letter from a retired Norwalk High teacher. It's in The Hour. It has the title" Move forward to enrich the greatness of the Norwalk Schools"
You have to read the comments- especially the nasty tone from Mike Barbis. He attacked the retired teacher who wrote the letter. It proves what a lot of have been saying. The Apples use nastiness to keep what little power Susan Marks gave them.
