All is Well in Norwalk?

It's election time! All is well in Norwalk. The Board of Education members are getting along well. Sue Haynie hasn't been changing the Board minutes and has been as quiet as a mouse nibbling cheese. We have a perfect city and a great school system because of our suddenly fabulous Board who has accomplished so much during their tenure. What do you think? Is it just election time or is the change real? Much of what appears in newspapers and what we hear seems to think all is well in Norwalk. What do you think? Does change come this quickly?

  1. No Marks, No Angry Jack . . . . that would improve anything.
Tony Dadonna did a lot of good work. He brought calm.
Problems still exist. Still no changes to the English Language Arts program for K-5. Next year's budget will be a nightmare because large teachers' raise- you bet Lyons wants to keep that hidden because it shows that Haynie messed up big time.

  2. 3:19, you are correct in all matters NPS! I have a feeling that when the election is over, and if some of the members of the BoE remain, the meanness and the anger will return. Maybe Norwalk voters will not be fooled by the sudden calm, and maybe they will be. If they don't get the vote out, disaster will follow.

  3. 8:08, we are all worried. We know who will stop the nonsense. Time to vote for Colarossi and Roman on their new party line. [cue: Angry RedApple response to why Colarossi was too tough on Marks]

  4. With a teachers' contract that requires a better than 4% raise next year, there are significant budget pressures that will require an approach to budgeting that must be free from political party pressures. That's one good reason to consider Andres Roman and me on Row D.
Now, that's not to say that there aren't 8 other very dedicated, concerned people who will bring certain strengths to our Board of Education (and I especially hope that my dear friend Artie Kassimis will return to the BOE, because he has proven himself to be the type of independent thinker I, as a parent, want on the BOE).
However, Andres Roman and I would bring a uniquely non-partisan approach to reviewing the issues that will challenge our students and taxpayers in the coming years-- and it is an approach which is needed.

  5. Good luck to the BOE on finding that four plus mil. It won't be easy. Mrs. Haynie swung hard got her freeze but actually hurt the city in the long run.
How see can be considered helpful to the students, and tax payers of Norwalk is BEYOND me!
New blood is need on the BOE and the City Council.

  6. Unless you work for NPS, the average tax payer does not have a clue what's going on with our school district. I hope the new superintendent can see the faults and problems with our school system. And hopefully he can clean house and rectify all these problems!

    1. Only you can help rectify the problems by getting the trouble makers off the BoE. If you don't vote, don't complain when Haynie and Barbis vote against the best interests of our kids. Don't wait and expect miracles. Help to create the miracle. Vote and get everyone you know to vote. Every single ballot counts!

  7. Yes we will be in a $4mil deficit even before the budget process starts. We can thank Sue Haynie and Mike Barbis and even Mike Lyons for this. Sue & Mike B. have to go. Please come out and vote for anyone who is seeking election even if it is Mickey Mouse!

  8. FWIW . . . I feel so very badly that I can't vote for Heidi this time around. You know, I thought for sure she'd be like Marcus Welby and do no harm. Too bad she's thrown her lot with Haynie, Barbis, King Mike and Angry Jack. It'd be good to have a "nice" mom on the BOE, but not if it means letting Haynie get away with anything she wants.

    1. If only Heidi was able to think for herself. Why did she follow Haynie, etc.? I was sorry to see that happen too.

  9. Would love to see this site or Nancy on Norwalk sponsor a real live debate among BOE candidates.
The League of Women Voters asked the BOE candidates for written responses to questions. Guess who that helps (hmm . .. the candidate who'll have Mike Lyons write her responses for her?).

    1. If this site sponsored a debate, the moderators and the audience would have to wear paper bags on their heads to preserve their anonymity. :)
