Two Items of Intersest

Looking for reactions to the following two items: (1) Since when does a superintendent approve of a building administrator's vacation request while school is in session? This last week a building administrator has been vacationing, according to my sources. (2) It is my understanding that Rosa Murray does her fighting for the students behind the scenes. She doesn't disagree in a public forum. I thought that was a good thing. Remember Corda left when she was on the Board. Is it possible that some people don't see her passion up front and therefore think she isn't effective? She opposes the Red Apples for certain!

  1. To which building administrator are you referring?

  2. I would appreciate a second confirmation. Administrators are already talking about it, since it sets a precedent. I'm hearing the high school?

  3. Which high school?

  4. NORWALK HIGH SCHOOL- Housemaster and former Director of Elem. Ed Carol Marinaccio, I've been told, is on vacation. Supt. Marks approved it.

  5. The good and the bad on Rosa Murray--
The good: she seems to be able to work across the aisle.
The bad: on the budget, I thought she punted- voted with her Dem members against it with no suggestions for better cuts.
The good: By all accounts, she will hold Supt. Marks' feet to the fire.
The bad: She voted to extend the superintendent's contract (a true WTF moment).

  6. 5:17, you are saying that 'tHe pet' got a vacation during school time that has set a precedent for all administrators? Why would the superintendent do something that appears to be incredibly stupid?

  7. 5:50- I'm not the original poster, but as to why the superintendent would do "something that appears to be incredibly stupid?", there's a list of other incredibly stupid examples of BAD MANAGEMENT.
We know she did nothing to try to keep Craig Drezek. We know she kept fighting to keep her Director of Elementary Ed even when she was fighting to cut intervention aides and teachers. We know she has an IT Director who can never be found, gets to work from home and who also had a vacation request approved even when there was tons of work to be done this summer.

  8. If you believe that we have a nice but sort of ineffective superintendent and if you think that having 3 RedApples candidates aren't good, then I think you have to lean toward Rosa, right? Am I missing something? Any one want to offer some insight- any one who's worked with Rosa on the BoE want to chime in?

  9. Rosa is one of the 'good guys.' She visits schools, supports the kids and does her homework. You will not see her argue in public, it's true. Best of all, she is NOT a red apple.

  10. O.K. Educated Yesterday . . . looks like (1) it's true and a housemaster was allowed to take a school year vacation and (2) Rosa has her fans and even those who might not vote for her respect her.
What I would love to see discussed here is what people think the BoE's role should be-- do we want fighters, do we want technocrats, do we expect that the members support the Superintendent or do we want them to support the taxpayers?
    What say you?
