  1. Trust.
How do we get the Board of Education members to trust each other?
How do we get the union mistrust to stop from the Board of Education? Don't they see it hurts morale.
How do we get the employees to trust the Board of Ed a lot more? Don't they see that they are needed.
How do we get parents to trust the system enough to know that when tough calls are made by CO or BOE they are made carefully?

    1. Good question. It would help if the Board of Ed could put aside their logical affiliations and work for the students. It would also help if certain members put aside their affiliation with outside groups, such as the RedApples. It might help for the Board to meet with the Unions to figure out how to solve their public disputes before they arise. Most importantly, it would help if personal vendettas were eliminated. I think Jack and the mayor should lead and demand that these. Issues be settled. If anyone refuses to cooperate, ask for his/her resignation. In short, we need to see leaders doing what they are supposed to do in order to create peace and harmony. What a concept!

    2. Typo correction: logical affiliations should be political affiliations

  2. I'm a parent who's written to the Board.
I'd have more trust if Haynie provided something other than a stock and condescending response. I'd trust the Board a little more if Barbis was called out on some of the ridiculous things he says and does.

  3. Leadership from the Board is what we need to see. The chairman has to take charge.

  4. Goal Setting with real transparency.

It is time for the BoE to set goals and be very transparent about how they are planning to go about achieving them. Then take input from the public. I appologies for bringing up a sore topic, but since it is current, talk avout the search for the superintendent and bring in the public to set the goals and timeline. I believe this would also help with the trust issue.

    1. Public input would be critical. Isn't it funny to see Haynie pushing to hire a search firm with no public input. I guess when you know what "your" public already thinks, there's no need to ask the plebians for their input.

    2. Is Haynie really the problem? Are you telling me that Barbis and her have that much influence? Seems to me that lots of us are trying to find an excuse.

  5. You speak of the need for Trust--Having been an educator for 25 plus years, I can say there is no trust and it is getting worse. The leadership at the top and the boe don't know what trust is, what confidentiality it, what is needed for our students and so on. There has not been trust for such a long time that it is going to gain the trust of the staff, community, and so on. How can one trust when the games are still being played, the board is splintered on votes, board members camp out in central office, decisions are made on who owes who.
Need a complete clean out and then you can build trust.
Lead by example not by intimidation and talk.

  6. A compete clean out would destroy the system. All that would be left are the unions. Your statements make no sense. Too bad you have such anger for those in control. Maybe you need to go where those that rule do so by example. Good luck finding Shangri-la.

  7. Friends in the Central Office keep telling me about Haynie's constant demands. Lots of freedom on information requests and tons of emails asking for "data". No sense that her work is keeping them from doing their jobs. Why won't anyone stop this nonsense?
Don't you people know what you're dealing with?

    1. I heard the same thing. She is so out of control and no one is doing anything to stop it. I will remember come election time. We sure need someone who is capable of leading and handling a member like Sue Haynie.

    1. The state would have to hire some experienced cowboys to rope in some of the wild and crazies on the Board of Education. It could even take several cowboys to rope in Haynie. She is as wild and crazy as they git! Ride 'em cowboys!

  9. I'd really like to know about the 10 mil??? By cutting hours of 20+ secretaries and housemasters, was it all rectified? That sounds impossible to me. All that seemed to be accomplished was less pay and a "hell" of a lot more work on everyone's part!

  10. Does anyonme really care anymore? I'm born and raised in Norwalk. I have worked for the school system for 28 years. I have never seen it as bad as it is now. I just don't see it getting any better soon.

    1. Each and every person makes up the school system. If you are depressed about the 'system' changing, it is up to each person (you) to turn it around. Ask yourself, if after 28 years am I able to do something to affect a positive change? Change for the positive can create enthusiasm and excitement that spreads. Be the change, don't wallow in it like the losers do.

    3. Too bad you want to stay a loser. Your negativity is depressing! The only two people whom I know who are so angry and negative are the 'I am better than a housemaster' and her former secretary/friend. Maybe it's time for you to move on. You are dead wood earning a salary.

    5. 8:55pm.....Yes, I guess I'm a loser on your planet. Dead wood earning a salary....very good.I like that. If you really think I am, then you are in for a huge suprise, beacause there are huindreds like me working for this school system that think and feel the same way. Hundreds! We are the only hope you have for change. Not you, not Jack or the BOE, not even the mayor.

  11. Yes, there are hundreds like you, and the public believes that is exactly the problem. You, however chose to post your negativity.
