Push for Parental Screening First?

There is an obvious agenda afoot with the screening process for the candidates for the superintendent's position, so I've heard. Certain parents want to be the first line of screeners for the position. Most of the RedApples want to be in that group. What's the agenda? Guess who will be eliminated first, if he is persuaded to apply for the position? I'll give you one guess, because that's all you need. On the other hand, there is a suggestion to keep the Interim one more year so that the new Board of Education (with four positions available) will be able to choose their own superintendent. Two related, but very different topics up for discussion. What do you think?

  1. What do we think? I'm sure many of us would think it is in extremely poor taste to engage in this petty nonsense at a time when we are all still in shock over the events in Newtown. Drop the politics and backbiting and relax for just this one week of mourning. This post is incredibly poor timing and looks bad for the person who is pulling the strings behind the scene. There are my two cents for all it is worth. Shame on you.

    1. In response to the person who thinks this topic is inappropriate, this blog offered the opportunity for people to respond to the dreadful event in Newtown. Yes, this was horrible to hear about, but some of us need a diversion. It is unhealthy to think about this 24/7 as the news media would like. If you want to be unhealthy and fixate on a tragedy, you go right ahead. No one told you to look at the blog today. Or we're you looking for some diversion as well?

    2. Life does go on in Norwalk, even though we respect and empathize with the families in Newtown. Even the president will go back to fixing the problems of the world today. On Friday, I noticed this blog offered a place for people to write their thoughts regarding the Newtown tragedy. Give the person who keeps the blog a break. You are being very disrespectful yourself. Look at your words! Be responsible for what you say. I, myself, am happy this blog exists. If you want to respect the week of mourning, that is YOUR privilege. Don't post here.

  2. To the first poster-- did you write to the NFL to object to their playing football on Sunday? Did you write to the Cartoon Network to object that they were showing cartoons instead of news?
The families in Newtown deserve our prayers. The precious souls lost deserve to be honored.
But that doesn't mean that we stop all our other work- especially if we feel that we are helping our students.

  3. The Apples have tried to hire a person they can control as superintendent. Daddona can't be controlled by them. Since Daddona is looking better and better every day, the Apples have decided to get him out in a sneaky way. Of course it must have taken those women weeks to think out this new plan. Parents shouldn't be the first group to interview the candidates! What an absurd process. Someone puh-lease make sure there are no Apples on the interview team. Let's keep this fair and square.

  4. The BOE messed up when they didn't bring a small number of finalists to the public (when they hired Supt. Marks). Now, they want to bring everyone to the public. I don't know about any of you, but I want the BOE to screen the candidates. I want the BOE to be the group to figure out who's a finalist.
Some community groups have a real axe to grind. A few of them are aligned with the Apples-- a few are tied exclusively to South Norwalk-- and more than a few have people in charge who don't live here. Let community leaders come to public forums like the rest of us to meet the finalists- they're not more important than any one of us.

  5. Let's get some messy facts out of the way. The GE Report praised Marks and blamed everybody else for her failures. They might give a lot of money, but have a pretty high opinion of themselves. Too closeminded to help picking a superintendent. The NEF is in the same boat. And the email the NEF sent out not too long ago took some cheap shots at Daddona. Too many axes to grind in this town for groups to represent all the people. The best bet we have is that whacky Board of Education, who at least get elected.
