Continuing "Turning to You"

The last topic was so popular that we were running out of room. Please continue here......

I believe the last comment added was about how the Board needs five members to pass something.
That's why this election is so important. The five members could go either way......

  1. If you saw the clip on NancyOnNorwalk from last night's candidate forum, then you're probably still scratching your head. Sue Haynie, well, she was just classic Sue Haynie- it was kind of like one of those old K-Tel record commercials (where you get a snippet of all the great hits of the past). Too bad you only re-release hits- nobody wants to hear Sue attack Steve, insult teachers, scream about the union and praise her BFF, the failed quitter Susan "I'll Take 80-Grand On the Way Out" Marks.

  2. Rather Haynie then Colloarassi a discredited attorney who can't even get endorsed by his own party or his two side kicks Kassimis +1 and Roman +2. Their only allegiance is to Bruce. Can't say I blame them considering both of their wives are Norwalk teachers. What are there jobs when the BOE negotiates with the union?????? Isn't it the BOE job to negotiate on behalf of the tax payers and students?

    1. My wife is the type of teacher I would have wanted to be when I taught public high school in the Boston area. Jen nurtures each and every one of her Brookside preschool students, guides them to develop their unique abilities and encourages them to have the confidence to take-on new areas and learn new skills. Her students are her first priority, and she doesn’t let any health concerns interfere in her care and teaching of her students. She has a dedication to her students that, as a husband, is one of the many reasons why I am very much in love with her and that, as a Board of Education member, makes me thankful that we have teachers like Jen in our school district.
Her employment doesn't present a conflict (except with regard to voting on the teachers contract). In fact, knowing her dedication to her students encourages me to fight for all of our children because they deserve a BOE as committed to their success as their teachers are.

    2. DON'T YOU MEAN MOSBY. HER SONS AND GRANDSONS WERE ARRESTED LAST YEAR MORE THEN ONCE. As a mother when your kids struggle it is a very stressful and difficult thing to go through. I have had so many wonderful teachers in NPS but language Arts is a mess. It is not the teachers fault. They don't have a curriculum, teacher development or support from downtown. I hope Dr Rivera is up for the JOB:)

    3. We need to leave people's families out of these discussions. There are enough issues to debate without violating the privacy of children.

    4. ANONYMOUS out of fear of GETTING SUED! Why would you criticize a parent who is struggling and trying to do what is best for their child. I give her credit for being involved. NOT EVERY TEACHER IN NPS is great. We have a few lame ducks that need to go.

  4. LOVE THE PURPLE PARTY. No offense but we have enough men on the BOE. Harris, Haynie, Keyes and Rosato have my vote.

  5. No, you mean the Red Party-they are all Red Apples. Openly or in disguise. Is that why you didn't include Mosby?

    1. Purple, Red, White or Blue Apples .....it looks like you had to much to drink last night. The reason I support Hanyie, Harris, Keyes and Rosato is they can work together even thought they may not agree on everything. They respect each other and we will spend more time talking about issues then the secret society of Red Apples.com. Have you even visited the website?

  6. If you vote Haynie, Harris, Rosato and Keyes, shame on you! It's a vote against the dedicated teachers in the school system and a vote for angry women with an agenda. The agenda is to promote the Susan Marks plan, a plan that was NOT in the interest of our students. Voting for them because there are too many men already on the BoE is not a reason to vote for the women. Don't destroy the school system for silly reasons!

  7. You sound like an angry person. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, RESPECT and SUPPORT the Norwalk Teachers. Nobody cares about the Red Apples, or Susan Marks. What they do care about the BOE working together for the common good of all children.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The red apples are here supporting their candidates. No surprise! The fact is, the red apples want the power to push their agenda through without others stopping them. Take a look at the apples voting record on the Board. They ALWAYS vote together. They even look at each other to see how to vote. Lockstep voting. Their agenda does not support teachers. Fact: Haynie is fighting with all her might to get the program she wants for the elementary language arts curriculum. Fact: the teachers who are the experts in choosing the curriculum do not want her program. It was a program they found to be severely lacking. They chose a different program. Fact: All the apples support Haynie. Fact: the LA program was put on hold.
Spin: Look at the above comments. "You sound like you had too much to drink" or "You sound like an angry person," That's the apple way of spin. They do it to Steve C. All the time. Are these the people you want to make decisions for our students?

    ReplyDelete
  9. you obviously have a problem with the redapples.com and that is a personal choice. it is funny that you only choose the comments that were pro haynie, keyes, rosato, harris but thought the comment regarding harris/mosby children was acceptable. i am not attacking anyone and don't support the people that do. i do know nps has purchased three or four math curriculums while my children were in elementary school $$$$. i think the boe majority decided to wait for the new superintendent before choosing a curriculum. steve wanted to back dadonna's plan while he was acting superintendent. i don't know if that is good or bad. dadonna might be correct??? i do think it was wise to wait for dr. rivera and let him be in charge of making that decision and not rush something that is so important and expensive. i like the idea of teacher input. i don't think the boe should have anything to do with the curriculum. they are not educators.

    1. Check out the coverage Nancy on Norwalk gave to the curriculum choice. Sue Haynie was the problem. You can read a lot of her emails. She was trying to micromanage the teachers and the dept. head. Haynie tried to look at the personnel records of every teacher on the review panel.

      Delete
    2. sadly you are mistaken...curriculum failure rests solely on the head of dadonna.

      Delete
    3. 10:03, you are the one who is very wrong. Curriculum failure rests on Haynie. She is the one who wanted her buddy, Margie Gilles, to benefit from the sales of the program. The teachers, many of them with post master's degrees, did not want that choice. The Literacy experts did not want that choice. If Daddona was on their side, I would argue that he made the correct choice. Haynie and the Red Apples have no background in language arts to know a good program from a bad one. Typical spin of the Apples. Blame everything on Daddona or Collorassi. Red Apple politics!

      Delete
    4. Daddona is responsible for curriculum and gets paid almost 200K. Dadonna was moved into that role after he, and his ZEBRAs, blew up NHS. Haynie, Collorassi, Kassimis, Barbis, and Keyes were not on the BOE. The only reason he was awarded the job was the broken BOE, which included Mosby, didn't want to support Corda. The unpaid volunteers on the BOE DO NOT pick curriculum. ALL ideas should be considered. There must of been some kind of consensus, otherwise, the Red Apples would have voted Haynies curriculum through, and clearly that did not happen. LETS STICK TO THE FACTS!

      Delete
  10. Yes, let's stick to the facts! Daddona straightened out Norwalk High when it was left as a disaster area! The teachers gave him a standing ovation. Corda was very happy with the job he did. As far as I know, it was either the Apples or a disgruntled teacher who was held accountable at NHS who had problems with him. Why? Because he got rid of the Nathan Hale principal! Again, why the Apples? The Nathan Hale parents supported an illegal grouping of segregated minority students in a remedial classroom. The State Department came down and wrote Norwalk up for that illegal grouping. BUT the parents took it out on Daddona. Guess which parents have an agenda against Daddona that never stops? We can start with Haynie, who is in the Nathan Hale district....want to guess which other parents are in the Nathan Hale district? This hatred for Daddona continued even when he calmed the district as the Superintendent. He proved he knew how to work well with all factions. The Apples were stewing. They did everything in their power to side-track him. Haynie demanded all kinds of FOI documents almost every day. She kept the office downtown making an incredible amount of copies to meet her demands. Haynie kept changing the minutes of the BOARD MEETINGS! BTW, she hasn't asked for one change of minutes since Daddona left. HAYNIE DID EVERYTHING IN HER POWER TO STOP DADDONA! She did not succeed. And now the Apples are trying to spin once again!

    1. I AM NOT AN APPLE you have a screw loose. I ONE OF MANY disgruntled parents at NHS. It has nothing to do with Nathan Hale, that is your spin. State Dept came down on Nathan Hale on Dadonna's watch. He is completely incompetent. The only reason we didn't have a problem with the budget last year is because of the teacher freeze. Next year it is going to be a BLOOD BATH. All the teachers that were hired will be gone and more. YOU will blame it on Dr. Rivera. Where is TONY he was so wonderful we didn't have any of those problems. RED APPLES did it and hopefully you will be whining about HAYNIE TOO. FYI Haynie did stop Dadonna...he is not the superintendent, he does not have his curriculum and if the tax payers get a break he will be gone in a few years. HIP HIP HOOORAY

  11. Who is running a dirty campaign? The REDAPPLES! Don't you think it is time to stop lying about Daddona? It was contractual that he would RETURN to his position of Asst. Superintendent after his Superintendency. It was not up to the Board. Stop the hatred campaign! You are the worst role models for our students!!!!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sorry, it is the worst kept secret in Norwalk, Dadonna applied for the position for Superintendent and pulled his name when he knew he wasn't going to get it. Contractual yes, that protect Dadonna so he wasn't out of a job.

  12. We can complain about all the BOE members. Most have taken a vote or two that make us cringe.
But Haynie is in a class all by herself. She's notorious for demanding reports from central office and sending in FOIA requests. She's written long letters to the editor attacking the Board. She's tossed cheap shots at Tony Daddona constantly. She takes the republican nomination, agrees to run as a slate and then campains against Kassimis and Bazzano.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That has nothing to do with Haynie. That is a small group of independent voters that wants to see Norwalk functioning. They put the four candidates together, not Red Apples, not Lisa Thomson. Haynie, Keyes, Rosato, and Harris will work together. I would never vote for Kassimis he didn't win the at large vote last election. The GOP gave him his seat. For those of you who really don't like one of these candidates I think Bazzano would be an excellent choice. I only have four votes.

But that's what these people do. Idol worship. That's all it is. And they stick to their talking points. Don't you laugh every time they say "reform-minded superintendent Susan Marks". Too bad they can't tell you anything she did that was a reform.

    1. Who ever said he was the devil. DADDONA is incompetent but a decent human being. He didn't do his JOB. We have had FIVE math curriculum, 0 language arts. I don't know if you have ever gone to a open school night ....but every teacher does something different, uses different tools, has different expectations, grading, even contacting them....some use the phone, most have their own web sites, two different emails. This year I had two teachers who are not using the text book. Last year my son was in AP chemistry and the teacher said they weren't using the book it had to many mistakes in it. The AP test is in May so the last 4-6 weeks of school the kids went through the text book pointing out the mistakes. You can't make it up. They are great teachers too. Who is in charge of curriculum and buying books? DADDONA.

    2. FYI my child received a 4 on the Chemistry AP exam.

  16. 4:32 AM, the incompetency lies with the teacher and the principal. Did you complain to the teacher, the principal or even the head of the science department? Daddona is not responsible for evaluating how the teacher handles the curriculum. The principal should be evaluating that. Also, there is a plan for review of the curriculum that the teachers in that department do. If the textbooks are that bad, they would have chosen other textbooks. Something is very strangely wrong with your complaints. A complaint from one person suggests lack of understanding or just another hate agenda from an apple. This is so sad!

    1. I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE TEACHER(s). I think the teacher wanted the students to pass the AP exam. GET IT!!!! The teachers didn't want the text books DADDONA purchased. Thankfully we have competent teachers even though downtown is broken. I will share the information with Dr. Rivera privately now that we have a true leader. The teacher(s) did use another book one that was privately funded for the entire class.

  17. I suspect the Apples are trying to turn the negative conversation away from Haynie and their candidates to their favorite diatribe against Daddona. No, their hatred for Daddona doesn't make sense. Ladies, obviously you are going to pursue your hatred agenda for years to come. Get off it already. It's spin, as someone pointed out, and doesn't make the lot of you look very promising for the future of Norwalk. I won't vote for a gaggle of women with such vitriol. I can only hope others view your hatred and think likewise.

    4. Who are you backing anonymous? Let me take a guess? Collorassi, Kassimis(+1), Roman(+2), Mosby(+3) on the Bruce Union Ticket. Who cares about taxes, bridging the achievement gap, early childhood literacy, teacher contract negotiations, curriculum, teacher evaluations, teacher development that is a hateful agenda with a spin backed by redapples. Instead let us focus on cupcakes, techie tickets, sports liaison, and from preventing teachers from contacting students directly through social media.

    5. Early childhood literacy? Is that why Haynie did everything she could to bully teachers on the review panel for English Language Arts. Riddle me this- how did Haynie and Keyes vote to cut half the library aides do anything to help "early childhood literacy"?

    7. I spent approx three weeks in two elementary school libraries in the NPS inputting books into the new computer system. The libraries are bad. In our elementary school we started classroom libraries to create leveled book groups within the class. I don't think BMHS has any books. Roton the average book is from 1970. The elementary school had a few more current books (only one of each) everything else was at least 15 - 20 years old. NO JOKE! The kids will not relate in most cases. I dare you to go check out the libraries in all the schools. Go look on the shelves. The reality is we are going to have to do more with less we can't fund everything. In most of the elementary schools you could probably use volunteers to staff the library. Roton uses the library for research using the computers. In the cumulative 6 years my children attended Roton NOT ONCE did they bring home a library book.

      Delete
  18. Daddona does not choose the books. The teachers look through different series and choose their books based on State criteria. Don't make me laugh. Next thing you know, Daddona will be responsible for a broken pencil in an elementary school. FURTHERMORE, isn't it interesting that FOUR postings came in one after the other. First 11:33. Then 11:39, 11:41 and 11:55. My goodness! One person with such a focused hate agenda! Surprise! Surprise! I've got news for you, Apples. Voting Democrat or Republican or for the new party, Daddona has nothing to do with it. He is hired by contract. If the Apples want to get rid of him, it will cost muchos dollars to buy him out. Yes, vote the Apples and it will cost taxpayers a fortune!

    ReplyDelete
  19. ENOUGH! I wouldn't vote for a poisonous RedApple ever! Haynie only cares about getting rid of Daddona, which will probably cost the taxpayers half a mil to a million dollars. If you think schools are lacking in books and insufficient aides now, wait until her cockamamie 4% raise goes into effect and we have to buy Daddona out. His lawyer won't care about the cost to Norwalk! I don't get it. The State Department has extremely high praise for Daddona. What is Ms. Haynie's problem? I am thinking it is a vendetta that was caused by McCain's leaving. Grow up! Haynie and the Apples are going to cost this city millions. Ughhh!

  20. Maybe it's just me but I don't know what the "Purple" ladies are all about.
All of them talk in generalities. The only one who doesn't is Haynie- but her specifics are about who she hates and why she is playing the role of Inigo Montoya avenging the disgrace of Susan Marks.
    Can Haynie or Keyes tell us one proposal they offered to the Board that was passed? Can they tell of us of one specific stand they took? Just one;

  21. Just reading all these comments is making my head spin.
Love Dadonna or hate him- and it doesn't matter because he has a three year contract.
Haney, is made of teflon. Stop telling the truth about her. This is a woman who voted against letting little kids bring diabetes service dogs to school and no-body called her out for it. Lucky for us, she doesn't seem to be real popular.
Read the comments all the candidates made to Nancy on Norwalk in their profiles-- don't waste your time trying to get through the questions from the LWV forum. If they don't give specifics ask yourself why??
