  1. I missed yesterday's forum - any care to share how it went?

  2. Ok - while I wait for the common council candidates to set up - I wanted to hate my remarks in the boe candidates. I was not sure who Mathew Surapine was but he really impressed me. He ha good answers and came across pAssionate and a strong contender. Rosa on the other talked about instances that I have yet to see from her...communication; she hardly speaks, accountability; I have yet her hold anyone accountable on anything - she just did not do much for me. Nothing jumped at me or made me believe that she will have a purpose or value in the comittee. Sorry Rosa, you had the chance it's time for someone new

  3. Before tonight, I was wondering who was Matthew Surapine-- after the debate, I was wondering why this guy hasn't run before.
    He was respectful and passionate.
He had a great command of the facts.
He understands how important honest debate is.
I loved that he has real world experience that he will bring to our schools' problems.

  4. 11:03 I agree with you. I was looking forward to hear Rosa Speak but was disappointed. She did not convince me on voting for her again and I was sure she was going to get my vote. Mathew Surapine - I never heard of this man but his passion and interest really showed - there was a certain flare about him that we need in the BOE. Sorry Rosa, ive changed my mind.

  5. It's funny that I was feeling pretty much the same way. I liked the kinder gentler Rosa I've seen the past few months and was leaning toward voting for her. With all the new people on the BoE, I was leaning to having someone with her years of experience.

During the debate, I just didn't get a sense that she has any passion for the position-- I got that old feeling that she feels "entitled" to be on the Board of Ed. I'd rather have someone with passion- plus I really liked what Surapine had to say.

  6. My next door neighbor and I are closely watching the candidates - mainly the BOE. She informed me that a message was left on her phone about endorsing Migdalia, District B. While I know she has no contender, she was pretty disapointed that the message was not directly from her. In fact, the message was from Mrs. Rodgriguez who is running for At-Large Common Council. My neighbor knows Mrs. Rodriguez and can recognize the voice from far so I found this odd....Why is she not calling herself...maybe Ms. Rivas "fans" can answer that?

  7. Mr. 'Passion' brings to mind the 'Tortoise and the Hare' story. I would rather vote for the slow and steady wins the race. I think we have enough flare on the BoE. Rosa has my vote. As for the call endorsing Migdalia, that's done for many politicians. I once had a call from Paul Newman endorsing another candidate.

  8. 12:41pm - thanks for your input on Mrs. Rivas, I agree with you about others endorsing a different candidate, I guess what threw her off was that the endorser (rodriguez) is running herself for a Common Counsel position -just weird, that's all.

  9. The "slow but steady" Rosa? Have yet to see any leadership from her. Where was her 16 years of experience when she joined the Board in the middle of the budget mess? She didn't make a single suggestion.
Sorry- but we tossed her out two years ago and need to do the same thing again.

  10. With a couple of online papers, good reporting in the Hour and being able to follow Danielle Capalbo tweets, I think I've been able to follow the debates pretty closely (although I only made it to the debate for A and D).
Surapine seemed to be the only guy who was comfortable on stage-- maybe the fact that he performs opera helped him, but he gave a passionate explanation of what he wanted to do and what problems we face.
In D, I just saw the same old Angry Jack- no apologies, no depth of knowledge, obsessed with crushing the teachers' union president and no vision. He scared me and Burnett underwhelmed me. IMHO, and I live in D, I don't think I will vote either one of them.
