Open topic

While we are waiting for the budget cuts, here is another opportunity for you to post your topic of choice...

  1. 1. Memorial Day Weekend and NO CUT LIST. Does anyone else think that this shows a complete lack of leadership by Supt. Marks?
    2. Has anyone else had enough of the cheerleaders who claim that Supt. Marks deserves high marks for her "effort"?

Last I checked, Supt. Marks has had weeks to come up with the cuts that are needed. What's the delay?

  2. Don't think anyone is surprised by the lack of budget attention. I'm still shocked that only one Board of Ed member tried to dig into what caused the deficit. After that, nothing surprises me.

  3. Let's see.... William Levy should have won Dancing with the Stars! Rain/sun is predicted for the Memorial Day Weekend. President Clinton had his picture taken with 2 hookers. And last but not least, many, many NPS employees are sickened over all the rumors and possible loss of jobs and/or "messing around" with pensions. Someone needs to take control of this mess and tell the employees something SOON!

  4. Very, very sad what's going on in Norwalk with the destruction of the education system by the City. A total lack of leadership by both the City and the BOE. Instead of being part of the solution, they have become the problem. But Norwalk is not alone in this area as lots of other municipalities are watching their public school education system being flushed down the toilet.......screw the kids! All the special interest groups come first. The teachers union, the administrators union, nurses union, the IT union, all the classroom aides, secretaries, library clerks, custodians, food service workers. They come first and our kids get whatever is left. The unions do very little but
collect dues to send to thier political action groups and to protect the sick, lame and lazy employees in their groups. They are skilled blame masters, always pointing the finger at others for the problems and accept not a penny of blame for anything. Unions that have forced us to accept the lowering of standards and expectations for their members. Overpaid principals, with assistants, who just can't get the job done.Secretaries in the school offices, with utility aide assistants, who do very, very little and are not even required to answer the darn school telephone. A special teacher for this, another special teacher for that, intervention specialists here and there, all paid full time, but with part time schedules. Who's kidding who.......this isn't about educating our children.....it's about the unions. When the taxpayers of Norwalk finally realize what the real problem is with our public school system, they will be much better off and in a much better position to join forces in order to elect official who are willing to take on these issues. The kids just don't come first in Norwalk any longer folks.

    1. Come walk a day in our shoes in the school system and see if your mind is changed about what we do and dont do. Dont go bad mouthing us until you know what we do. Aides work twice as hard as people in the business work. We are underpaid and get NO BENEFITS except for the the 30 hr employees who are very few in the system. We are there for the KIDS because we love what we do and we all DO IT WELL. So before any one can critize what the support staff does walk into any school and JUST LOOK around We dont appreciate false information being spoken about us.
      Thank you
an aide who works with your children every day and loves their job.

    2. I guess your not one of the chosen few at that special semi private Columbus school that gets to work with all the "I'm better than you" suburban kids that mommy and daddy thinks are so gifted and talented. Sorry. But really......with the exception of taking money out of your paycheck and spending it on whatever they want, what has your union ever done for you? That's what I thought!

  5. At the Cranbury School concert last week, we were all told to call the Board of Ed and the Mayor to demand no cuts. Talk about an out of talk principal- she's clueless about the deep cuts that every school will feel.
Too bad Supt. Marks hasn't figured anything out yet. Her interview in The Hour confirmed my worst fears- no plan, no leadership, no sense that we are at mission critical and are burning up on re-entry.

  6. Worried about my children's educations, frustrated by the lack of information and can't sleep. Reading the local blogs and on-line papers isn't exactly relaxing me. You know what I mean?
So it got me thinking about a new topic.
This is a blog about school stuff, so can we talk about the alleged videotape of Mike Barbis? Supposedly it shows him using a Rowayton Volunteer Fire Department pick-up to make a personal dump run. But I think the big story is the support for Barbis on the Norwalk Daily Voice site. The cheerleader for Supt Marks has cheerleaders of his own. No accountability for Barbis just like he refuses to hold Marks accountable for anything. I don't know about you, but I see a pattern.

  7. I don't know if any Board of Education members really read the blogs and comments on the on-line papers. If they did, they'd have to realize how frustrated we are. There's been NO INFORMATION, leaked cut proposals (like the ones my PTO officers know about) and NO MEETINGS to give us a chance to fight for our kids.

    1. What privileged information do these parents know that the rest of us dont know? Rumors are what are fueling this madness.

  8. This is outrageous!!! Jobs are on the line, school employees are worried sick about what's to come. Who's being cut, who's hours are being cut, should some get out while the getting is good? Some don't want to but are worried about their pensions. Why must we wait till the 11th hour. Any what about medical benefits? WE NEED INFORMATION NOW!!! Teachers/Administrators can get out with their HUGE pensions. Support staff will suffer!! In fact, the schools and kids are the ones who will suffer.
