Executive Session, miscellaneous

(1) I heard Sue Haynie left the Board of Ed meeting and did not attend the executive session. (2)RedApples are populating the parent sessions to make their agenda heard. (3) NORWALKACT has a private session with the search firm???

  1. What happens during an Executive Session must stay within the bounds of confidentiality that everyone expects.
However, when the BoE left its Executive Session, Chairman Lyons made a motion that was passed unanimously-- the motion praised the work being done by Interim Supt. Daddona and offered support for the implementation of his communication policy with BoE members.

  2. If you read the article in The Hour about the last search meeting, you have to wonder what's really going on. How deep is the division between people who want "change" at any cost and the folks who want what's best?
If I need a doctor, I want someone who is good. They don't have to be a published researcher to be a good practitioner. They do have to be a good listener who has the necessary chops to cure me. The next superintendent is going to have to do the same thing. I'll bet that the most important skill they'll need is to have the patience to get to know Norwalk before trying to fix anything.

    1. We already have an Interim who knows Norwalk and is settling everything down before implementing all kinds of new ideas. We've had so many new ideas in the last several years, it's time to stop and take stock of what's working and what isn't. Change isn't always good. We've learned our lesson on that one, I hope.

    2. well 12:07, I can't wait to hear his ideas when he stands before a crowd to plea his case on why he is the best candidate. We, the public hopes that we see what you and others say about him.

  3. Sue Haynie is simply awful, and Lisa B. another one. These two dim-wits together couldnt find thier a$$ with a map and a flashlight. They dont want change for the better they just want "change" Norwalk. Both bash the unions for thier jobs, but do they even have one themseleves.

    1. I'm starting to wonder if the all the negativity isn't helping these people. They claim to have the "answers". They will tell anyone who'll listen how they need to shake up education.
But call them out on their nastiness and they say it's a sign of how good they're rattling the "status quo". No chance of an honest debate with them.
Is it time to start ignoring them again?

  4. Onto another subject - why is the IT Director back at CO when he embezzled NPS money? Is anyone watching?

  5. More importantly, where's the transparency on the IT director issue and the accountability? Sounding like Corda days again... Yes, we need a NEW superintendent.

    2. Regarding labor issues, the Interim knows how to keep stuff confidential. The staff respects him enough to not blab. When you respect your workers, they respect you.
Guess part of the "reform" agenda of the Apple-crowd (you know, Haynie, Barbis, Lauren Rosato and Lisa Thompson) is to have a superintendent who breaks state labor laws!!!

    3. I'm sure you have read this article this morning - very interesting. As a tax payer, I want someone to explain how the current Interim is noting the dismissal of this Director to be 'commute' matter, then noting the exact truth..theft and misuse of funds. Unless of course there is a due process or a legal matter in place that this is how they concluded to this matter.

When the previous Superintendent left, people were quick to state how horrible and incapable she was...everything was placed on the table when it came to her responsibilities and abilities. So, why be any different with this Director. As a Tax paper, I want that money back into the schools. He should be charged for theft on behalf of the people since central office is not willing to charge him for it. This is an opportunity for Central office and the BOE to show the city, tax papers, other adminitrators/teachers, etc...accountability and consequences.

    4. The union and BOE lawyers worked it out this way. The Interim would have to abide by what the lawyers tell him to do. It's not up to a superintendent when there are charges brought up. There is a process followed by every superintendent.

  6. So what we are learning is that some people, probably Apples, are working overtime to cast suspicion on the Interim Superintendent with their lies. The Superintendent can not defend himself because of labor laws. These Apples use tactics that are as dirty and nasty as it gets. The Interim Superintendent does not deserve the lies and the back stabbing of a group of haters. Can the Mayor stop them? Are we unable to put an end to these bottom feeders?

  7. No, the Mayor can't stop them. He doesn't want to.
He uses the Apples to do his dirty work.
The Mayor uses Haynie when he needs muscle on the Board of Ed. He uses Lisa Thompson to attack the unions. He uses Lauren Rosato to blather about accountability. If you don't believe me, just wait to see how many Apples are on the Republican ticket in November.

  8. Rosato has been gone for a while - get your facts.

    1. HERE ARE THE FACTS, 6:02 . . .
Rosato is a proud Apple and is one of its "founders" (just look at their website).
Rosato delivered Moccia's comments to the state Education Committee on ECS.
Seriously, 6:02- I'd say "get your facts" to you, but I think you're problem is that you need to "get the truth".

  9. Change means nothing without progess. That's what all of us in Norwalk want for our schools, our children and city as a whole. Progress! Keeping someone in place who has been in the system for over 34 years and has yet to truly be an agent of progress is not the answer. Everyone needs to stop making this about personal political agendas. It's not personal. From what I have witnessed over the past 2 years, it appears as though egos and personal agendas get in the way of doing what's right. It's sad, immature and disgraceful. Some of the language used on this very board is an example of what's wrong with our education system; lack of respect for eachother and lack of class. Compared to some of our surrounding school systems (who are getting it right), what sets us apart is all of the political infighting, name calling and lack of professionalism. This is about our KIDS, our property values and our quality of life. It's not about hurt feelings.
That being said, I've paid close attention to Red Apples and what they stand for. They should be applauded for asking for transparency when that is what is sorely lacking. They should be supported in their endeavor to make a difference in the lives of our children. They are met with such disdain and resistance from only those who want everything to stay the way it is; a system that serves those whith personal agendas.

    1. You do not understand at all, 6:28. Those who sat in the superintendent's chair in the last years wanted change immediately. Did it work? You know the answer to that! First comes healing, and that is what the Interim is doing. A very smart move! Teachers and administrators have had all sorts of new curriculum thrown at them from superintendents, subject area curriculum administrators and from the state. Absolutely no one has allowed time to implement what has been new before throwing more new curriculum into the mix. No one has even evaluated what is really working. The staff should be highly praised for incorporating all of these changes and making them work. The test scores are rising. You want more change? Good luck! Norwalk is making progress! Our kids are making progress! Someone who has 34 years of experience knows what Norwalk needs. You obviously don't!

    2. Listen, near the end of Corda's days, the state ordered Norwalk to have a major evaluation. The state ordered Norwalk to monitor student progress and report it. The state ordered Norwalk to develop the data teams at schools and district-wide.
Norwalk was praised for their progress on the goals the state set. The person who led that effort was Tony Daddona. Love him or hate him, you have to give the guy credit for what he did.

  10. Could anybody fill us in on the Hour story about a meeting with Bobby Burgess and the BOE? He sends out a press release, but the meeting isn't open to the public. If he wants to meet with the BOE doesn't he need to invite all the BoE members- or at least the chairman?

    1. Your facts are incorrect. He is meeting with BoE minority members outside of a Board meeting. They are acting as private citizens, not Board members during this meeting.

    2. Yet another example of a headline in The Hour that is all wrong!
