  1. The most important message of all, as Santa gets ready to make his trip is -
May peace and joy come to Norwalk this holiday season. Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah and Happy Kwanza to all the Norwalkers who are celebrating with their families and friends this year! We thank you for contributing your thoughts, suggestions and concerns to NORWALKSPEAKS.

  2. Yes, $956 a day! Whatever Mike Lyons wants, he gets. Did we elect an emperor or a chairman?

  3. Did you know that the Red Apples, the Norwalk Parents for Education and the PTOC are the same people?

  4. 1,000. is the going rate for interims. I think the lodging account is a bit much since he only lives in shelton.

  5. I am puzzled by the reaction to Rivera's leaving. Have people been brainwashed into thinking this man was the best ever for our students and staff even though he is leaving Norwalk after what, 18 months? The facts don't support the rave reviews. Mark's actually got the funding from the major foundations and businesses, NOT Rivera. The Common Core was a State mandate, NOT a visionary change in curriculum created by Rivera. There was no accountability, just movement of administrators down to central office. Rivera accepted the relocation reimbursements to the tune of $16,000(I believe), yet was looking elsewhere for employment. The P TECH school was not his idea either. I don't get it. We have no test scores. What did he actually do for Norwalk? (Except bring his buddies in at a high cost to taxpayers)

  6. So what's happening? Who is really in charge now? Will Connelly come in as the bad guy and get rid of those who are the albatrosses in Norwalk?

    1. Is it really a surprise? The apples posted comments on NoN that they were targeting people (someone called it revenge)... they gave the list of 3 names/initials of people they wanted gone from the distric... having Rivera eliminate the Dept Supt position (one that he originally created only now to say it's redundant) is probably just the beginning... I'm sure they'll try to find a way to eliminate the other 2. The apples say they want reform but what they've done in how they've eliminate this position is definitely the old Norwalk way. Unbelievable...

  8. It was time. The last three superintendents have been actively undermined from within. Everyone inside the BOE knows it and has seen it.

    1. That is a lie. That may be the rumor passed around, but it is not true. I know it because I was there.

    2. No it is not a lie. And if you were there, you must have been very close ......

    3. Were you there and were you the one close until it didn't benefit you?

  9. Absolutely not. I'm a building person, one of many who've been on the receiving end of scheming, influence peddling, and paranoia.

    1. Are you talking about Marks's paranoia? There are many in the school system who exhibit a great deal of paranoia. It would be hard for me to find those who don't show it whether at central office or in the buildings. Public school systems are built on paranoia. Many administrators were afraid to talk about Rivera for fear of the Board. Where does it begin and where does it end? Nobody knows right now.

  10. The blame for the paranoia sits squarely in the laps of the RedApples now known as the Norwalk Parents for Education or the PTOC. They made a list, checked it twice, and went for the jugular of these (publicly named) administrators during the reign of Marks and Rivera. This is "the new Norwalk." The replacements for these administrators will be just as scheming and paranoid, given the current climate. Politics plays a hefty role in school systems across the country. Wait and see!

I started the Norwalk Parents for Education site. I am not affiliated with Red Apples. I have served on the PTOC. I started it as a way for parents who have a difficult time making it to every meeting to come together to discuss and take action on the issues we are facing. I challenge you to join the conversation.
