The New Norwalk

There are named educator victims in THE NEW NORWALK WAY. whether deserved or not. The Justice system in this country has laws that protect victims, namely 'The  right to be treated with fairness and with respect for the victim's dignity and privacy.' Groups of parents, individual parents and perhaps even some members of the BoE have not afforded these educators these rights. Rumors are now spreading about the ending of careers of some of thoselong time educators  who have been named (and called names) publicly.  It appears that those who have posted here have been privy to what should have been kept confidential, considering the comments that have been made. Should we be ashamed of the way this went down? Ashamed that there lurks evil in the hearts of NORWALK residents, especially at this time of year? Or should we gloat that loss of dignity, respect and privacy for educators  led to this victory for certain groups?  You tell me.

  3. Sadly, the same people who are screaming the loudest for the heads of certain administrators were the ones who cheered the loudest (and made the most excuses) for Susan Marks. With their refusal to hold the former superintendent accountable for any of her actions, it is hard to believe that they are motivated by a desire for educational accountability.

Move on Steve ... your attacks on Marks are getting old ... she has been gone for 2+ years now ... the damage your cronies has done has been going on for decades

  5. Steve is right about Marks. He is one of the only voices of reason on the blogs. Continue to tell the truth, Steve. You are the defender of the school system and the truth teller in this tidal wave of cruelty. Don't give up on us.

  6. For years this blog has been a forum for uninformed, anonymous screeching about anyone trying to effect change in Norwalk schools. Marks, Rivera, other staff, BoE members, the Red Apples were all named and shamed with glee. Now someone mentions the names of a few administrators and the immediate sanctimonious response is that this "New NORWALK WAY" constitutes a cruel and vicious public lynching which deprives individuals of their dignity and privacy. The 180-degree turn and dramatic overreaction reveals who is behind this blog. Takes quite a bit of chutzpah to call it "new" when you've been doing it here for years.

    1. This rings so true! Sanctimonious, that's the right word. Thank you for posting this. It is a wake up call to Steve and his crew ... they just don't like the tables turned on them

  7. 1:54 PM, there is quite a difference in the name calling and accusations in "The New NORWALK Way." Parent groups have crossed the line into cruelty and viciousness. There will be an end to careers of people who actually worked hard for many many years in NORWALK. I was not a fan of Marks, and comments made about her were accurate, in my opinion. She was not ready to lead a district. She didn't know how to cultivate all parties. Rivera did know how to get people to work together. On the downside, Rivera is known to make promises, then run to another job. That was warned about here on this blog from the beginning. Surprise! It came true. Don't spin the truth.

  8. 3:52PM, please post actual examples of the name calling and cruelty you've alleged.

  9. 6:15, I will not repeat the name calling or cruelty shown on this blog. You can easily go back over the posts and see them for yourself. Let's just agree that repeating cruelty is not kind. People's careers have been ruined over some of these comments.

  10. This blog could be a positive forum for expression. However, because there is no other place to vent one's feelings, and express this becomes the forum for both positive and negative comments and reactions.
It is sad, but it is what it is! Yes people have been hurt by cruel and wrong statements, and careers and identify have been permanently damaged by those that continue to sling at one another, but in the end the kingdom of hate and jealousy will crumble!

  11. This forum posts both positive and negative comments. It seems the negative comments keep coming. Perhaps its best that a place exists for both venting and praising. I, for one, feel that venting is good for a person's health.

  12. It is true it is a place to vent. It does say something about the mood, morale, and lack of confidence in the school system. This is probably the only safe place to say what is on your mind without retribution.
The district is in such a state of unrest, and paranoia. Years of mismanagement, no accountability, and a dysfunctional board for many years, and a community who put their votes in trust into a failing system.
Who would want to come here?
I have been an educator for over 30 years, and I have never seen a situation like this. The highest paid in the state leaves after only 18 mos., the supt. before never had a chance, and before that a deal maker who brought years of backdoor deals. Let's not forget the interims at nauseum.
We are in for another rocky roller coaster ride. watch the real estate! the flight from public education, and the funders. Would you want to invest in a situation like this?

  13. I find it interesting that parents complained about administrators who were "bullying" other educators. Didn't we want accountability? These administrators were holding people accountable, not bullying. Seems like"damned if you do, damned if you don't. The "victims" of the so-called bullying ran to parents and to the superintendent to complain. You all listened and thought the "victim's" stories were absolutely correct. Word got around about how to discredit those who held educators accountable. Lots more people complained. Maybe the truth was skewed. No evaluator in Norwalk will want to hold others accountable now. Administrators can lose their jobs for doing their jobs!

  14. there has been a lot of bullying of staff--not accountability!
comments like: "IF YOU DON'T COMPLY, YOU MIGHT WANT TO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!"
"if you don't like it than leave!
"This district does not like out of box thinkers, if you are an out of box thinker, you don't belong here!"

These are just a few of what has been said by one admnistrator
    ...a central office administrator!
    but change is coming!

  15. Do you not understand that if a person is not compllying to curriculum, to the law or whatever, it is NOT all right? At central office, if phones are not covered and a secretary is told to be sure to be back on time, it is NOT all right to return after being late over the half hour allotted? Do you NOT understand that telling secretaries that it is NOT allowed to shop online all day while being paid is NOT all right? I have heard certain people complain about these things and others that they called "bullying." In fact, the people in question were NOT complying. They were being paid to do what they were asked to do, NOT what they wanted to do. (Within reason, of course) in the corporate world, these people would have been fired. Be careful who you listen to. There are many who whine at central office. There are many who can't be found during the day as well. The best defense for them is an offense.

What is the change that is coming? Please share.

    1. Please remember 4:53, not only do secretaries have certain responsibilities but a large part of their work comes from their supervisor. I have heard than some CO supervisors really are not doing all that much, therefore, their secretary is not given that much to do. As far as shopping on line, that is a no-no. But let's look at the administrators down there first to see if their work is being accomplished. There is a strong difference between speaking with an employee about their work habits as compared to acting like a bully in front of many.

You mean like Lyons and Rivera are doing re Board behavior?

  16. to 4:53 p.m., As an outsider looking in on your comments, it seems that the problem is not being addressed. If you have an employee not adhering to rules, then you meet with them one on one set the tone, and monitor. This is simple personnel 101. One does not carry on at meetings and publicly yell and bully the entire team.
True it would be different in corporate, but they have slackers too, however, the leadership is held accountable and they would be dealt with.

It is public knowledge there will be change at Central Office, and hopefully, in some of the schools that truly need new and competent leaders.

  17. So your condemnation of public displays of publicly yelling and bullying must also apply to Rivera and Lyons, who publicly chastised the 3 Board members. Also, to the people who have publicly commented on specific administrators in a derogatory way? No?
