Done Deal

Looks like the new superintendent will be appointed without the site visit some have been asking for. What's your opinion? Are you looking forward to his leadership? Taking a wait and see approach? Or  are you concerned? What are you feeling? I've heard many comments around town, but I will wait for your input.

  1. Isn't this hullabaloo about trust? We didn't trust the old BOE with their stone silence whenever we spoke at a meeting. We didn't trust the BOE under Iannacone and Chiaramonte because we knew Republican politics were their priority. We don't trust Lyons, Haynie and Barbis because they've never given us a reason to trust them.
If we don't trust them, we can't believe that they did their homework on the new superintendent. It's unfair to him, but it's more unfair to us.

    1. In my (humble) opinion, Haynie, Lyons and Barbis were in such a hurry to dump Daddona that they made a rush to a decision. There are many unanswered questions about this appointee that might come back to bite the taxpayers. Anyone in education knows that the 'honor' of being appointed Superintendent of the Year means absolutely nothing. Why did this Board not do its homework? Unfortunately it's the teachers and administrators who witness the flaws in their leader first. It takes forever for parents to see through the phonies. I hope that is not the case here, but be prepared if it does happen. Norwalk teachers and administrators do want a good leader. Make no mistake about that!

    1. Sure! But people who are liked don't get talked about. :)

    2. I applaud you! Everyone is so quick to critize each other. Some responses indicate to me that certain people don't want anyone BUT Mr.Daddona! They didn't like Corda, they didn't like Marks, so what now, their daggers are out for Mr. Rivera? What is wrong people? Sure seems like NPS is all about "who" you know, not "what" you know. (So now I'll wait for someone to critize my reply)

  3. You are right. I will critique your reply. Will you read it with an open mind, I wonder? Do you understand that some of the past superintendents had two completely different approaches to people? One, in particular was charming to parents, but downright nasty to his employees. Maybe some personnel deserved that behavior, but definitely not all. There are and were really good people who work/worked in central office. What we saw was a dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Do you know how frustrating that was? Does a true leader to that to his staff? If parents only saw the charmer, they had no understanding of the working conditions.
Another past superintendent was clearly in over her head. She didn't possess the knowledge of how to run a school system. That was a major challenge for all professional educators who wanted to make the system better. That superintendent surrounded herself with people who told her what to do. If she had mentors who knew what they were doing, perhaps the end of the story would have been different, but she didn't even know how to do that. Educators stood up for what they knew to be the best for Norwalk. The superintendent cowered and opened the door to those who would sympathize with her. She looked like a woman who was being beaten by thugs. Not true. It is most unfortunate that parents, and even some teachers, see the personality that is the public persona. What you don't see is the chaos, anger and lack of common sense of some of those people who inhabit that office.
Am I hopeful that the new superintendent is far superior to Corda or Marks? Of course I am. Still, the question that has been clearly presented here is WHY DID THE BOARD NOT MAKE A VISIT TO ROCHESTER? It's a fair question. Why are there no answers? Why allow these negative rumors to persist if a thorough vetting is done? Why? Do you have an answer?

  4. It is said that in a vacuum, dictators rush in to take power away from the people. This has happened in Norwalk. Parents no longer care about excellence from their Board. If they did, this candidate would have been properly vetted. Power has been handed over to Barbis, Lyons and Haynie. No one seems to want to stand up to question whatever these reprobates decide or what they say. We are ruled by dictators, agitators, folks who habitually make trouble for those 'they' deem unworthy.....is that really how parents want a school system run? Do we want adult bullies as role models for our children? Oh, no one cares.
