Norwalk Speaks.....

Norwalk Speaks allows the readers to choose topics about the school system.  We all have a turn, even me. So now it is your turn. Choose your topic, ask a question, tell us your story.....Norwalk Listens!

  1. If cuts have to be made, where will the cuts come from?

  2. My guess is that aides, clerks and programs will be looked at first. Anyone who is not required by state law is a possible candidate for the cuts. These are major dollars to be cut from the budget. The Apples on the BoE will be making these decisions.

  3. Correction: the superintendent will be making the decision.

    1. Who are you kidding, 3:45 AM? The superintendent recommends to the BoE. The Board votes on the cuts. If the Apples don't agree on the cuts, there will be trouble. Of course this is this superintendent's "honeymoon" period. AND the Apples want his support, so we shall see.

  4. There is a 4-5 million dollar deficit that the BoE is looking at. Rivera is going to have to be creative. Oh, Don't forget it was the RedApples that got us to this deficit. Tell me again why so many voters gave their vote to the AppleAlliance?

  5. Wait, the Apples got us into this deficit? Do tell

  6. Ok, let's see now. Two former Central Office employees (plus more) screw up and they probably still get their salary until things are settled and are or will get full pensions. Again I tell you some employees have not been on the job for years, yet they still get paid either a salary or workmans comp. And now they're looking at cutting the peons of the system. Again, I say, start looking at who your good and BAD teachers are and remove them. It seems the union protects those who screw up. Our school system is out of control and it's a disgrace. There are so many idiotic reasons why we are in the hole! Please Dr. Rivera, look into all of this nonsense!

    1. Teachers need to be reviewed- you have to look at the top to find out why it's not happening.
The NFT filed one grievance for a teacher termination in the past ten+ years- you have to stop blaming them for "protecting" bad teachers.

    2. You couldn't be more mistaken. Perhaps only one went to grievance. Mellion makes it incredibly difficult to supervise bad teachers out of Norwalk. Even those who break the law are protected. Just ask around -every school has had some.

When anyone gets close or makes progress on dealing with these non performers, they incredibly go out for years at a time.

  7. When Haynie and her apple friends on the "Negotiations Committee" forced the teachers into arbitration, the teachers got a 0% increase for 2013-2014. The BOE never voted on the offers or on Haynie's strategy. It was mostly her and Mike Lyons who ran the show. The teachers got a huge raise for the second year of that contract. With the steps and the basic raise, that will cost over $2.4 Million. So the first $2.4Million of any BOE increase goes to the big arbitration "win".

    1. Correct. The Apples spin, the Apples bob, but most of all the Apples cause major problems for the Norwalk Public Schools.

  8. If you doubt Lisa Thompson has her own private agenda, look at her editorial on Nancy on Norwalk. More of the same lies and spin.
She claims Artie Kassimis is a left wing democrat (obviouusly she's never spoken to him, read any of the materials he published when he ran for state senate).
She now takes credit for the anonymous campaign flyer pitching the Apple 4. Can you image wanting attention that badly that you admit to breaking campaign laws?
She claims that Sherelle Harris and Heidi Keyes got elected because they were Apples. Sure- a Dem sweep, but it's all because of her. The two candidates who were publicly alligned with the Apples, lost big- Lauren Rosato, whosaid she was an Apples Founder did the worst among all the Republican candidates.

    1. YES! You are so right about Lisa Thomson and her agenda!

    2. Doubtful Thompson was stupid enough to break any campaign laws. Pretty easy to check out. If so, Sciallaba and Brown would have been all over her. I did here that Kassimis was yelling at an elderly gentleman advocating for the four candidates att Fox Run threatening to sue. Not very nice either.

    1. Seems like this blog's whole agenda is anti Red Apples. There doesn't appear to be much else here. Norwalk Employee who must remain .... Anonymous

  10. If the Red Apples, especially Thomson, would stop their lies and obvious methods of trying to cozy up to Rivera by praising him in "opinion letters" and so forth, we wouldn't have to talk about them so much. It's like watching the younger Bush, who gave all the comedians material for their jokes. These Apples don't know when to leave a party. The election is over. Stop kicking good people in the face already!
This is an open forum. If you don't like the topic, choose one of your own. However, It appears that most everyone here writes about the obvious topics around town. Everyone is talking that they are tired of Apples and their nastiness.

    2. The Red Apples are back on Norwalk Speaks! Did we hit a vein?

  11. There is enough frustration in Norwalk to go around.
But there are bigger problems out there. Did you know that Chiaramonte and Barbis wrote nasty emails to Rivas during the superintendent search process? They tried to bully her. Did any of you see some of Barbis' nasty comments to parents on the blogs and in comments in The Hour? Did you read any of his tweats attacking his colleagues? If he thinks he should be chairman, let him make all his twitter feeds public. We can't have a chairman who hides behind private tweets that attack people.

    1. put your efforts into supporting our Superintendent and our kids , not your infantile and constant negativity towards those who disagree with you .. freedom of speech

    2. You don't believe in honesty and transparency about the BOE, the people who vote on curriculum, hires, etc. for our kids? You must be an Apple!

  12. I'm shocked at what Mike Barbis puts on twitter- but I'm not shocked that he insults people from behind his little protected account.
Here are the highlights of the guy Sherelle Harris and Heidi Keyes are supporting for BoE Chairman- shameful politics if you ask me.
[Insult to a letter writer in the 11/4/2012 Hour] I don't know what planet you are on but you don't know what you are talking about.

[Insult to Midaglia Rivas: 8/20/2013] I've been on the Board 2 years. I don't understand how and why she votes the way she does. No rational platform

[Insult to teachers] Question: on ELA curriculum, who knows more? National experts, NYC/NYS boards of ed or Norwalk teachers committee? Just asking

[Insult to ELA Director in response comment about her presenting research about ELA proposals] Wait, handing out 2 pages attacking the 5th ranked option is "honest"?

[Insulting the privacy of Executive Session by disclosing details: 7/9/2013] I'm confused. The Board is interviewing the principal finalists for NHMS but 2 of the board members just took off. Where is their commitment?

[Insulting Rosa Murray and Midaglia Rivas responding to request that he stop the drama: 7/9/2013 ] Nope, not doable. The hypocrisy needs to be exposed

[Insulting his critics: 6/20/2013] More anonymous attacks on me--again that "I'm political". Who are these wimps?

[Insulting Colarossi and Kassimis: 5/22/2013] Its an election season, right? BOE members up for re-election are suddenly asking questions about curriculum, worried about legal expenses?

[Insulting anyone who doesn't agree with him: 2/9/2013] And some great political grandstanding tonight. The local election is 9 mos away but we heard from some board members who are usually silent

[Insulting Midaglia Rivas:2/9/2013] Rivas ranting and raving. What is she accomplishing here? What is the point? We have an expert here to help us improve and Rivas attacking

  13. Thorough research . . . just wanted to remind Lyons, Charamonte, Harris and Keyes about these bits from the future Chairman's recent past:

    http://norwalk.dailyvoice.com/police-fire/norwalk-police-ed-leader-drove-unregistered-car

    http://norwalk.patch.com/groups/politics-and-elections/p/ed-board-candidate-barbis-has-arrest-foreclosure-cases

Do the right thing and don't support Barbis for chairman. He sets the wrong example.
